Hi All. I currently have a BMW F10 M5, and won't be changing for a year. There are number of cars I am considering for when I do change, and recenlty I have become very interested in the Hellcat.... this was encouraged by seeing the Hellcat at the Pistonheads pub at the Performance Car show this weekend. I went back to it a few times to see if I could find the owner to talk about it, but I didn't see them.

I have no experience of American cars and would appreciate some advice.

Firstly, can you see a problem with financing via a lease purchase through an independent company such as capitalcarfinance? I.e. would it being a left hand drive car from the US pose a problem?

Secondly, what sort of warranties are available? How comprehensive are they? Would the manufacturer still apply?

Thirdly, how do you service the car, how often is it and how expensive is it?

Fourthly, how much is road tax?

And are there any other expensive or unusual running costs I should consider?

Cheers!

insurance is very reasonable, even if they are modified, although that does add to the cost.
My Vette is 565bhp instead of the standard 505, with class 1 business but limited to 5000 miles, it costs me £413 to insure,

My vote is sublime or plum crazy!
May I ask who you are insured with? The cheapest I got on a standard F150 truck was double what you pay.

Thanks

They are all grey imported so you get any warranty the dealer you purchase it from offers or you buy a third party one.
Service is as cheap as chips, I've run 3 American cars including a supercharged Mustang, A 2010 Camaro and Z06 I have at the moment and most services are sub £200.
Tax is circa £235. i could tell you exactly but the cat' is sat on me so I can't get up.
Running costs are very low, most parts are easy to get hold of.

Thanks for the reply.

So is the tax the same on all American cars?
I have heard that running costs are low on muscle cars, but was wondering if the Hellcat is any different.
Does anyone know the service intervals on the Hellcat?

Road tax is on the old pre-emissions system for imports which is currently £230 a year.

Your big problem is going to be getting a lease. Most companies are scared of LHD vehicles because of the residuals. If you've got an asset lease fund with work you would probably be able to just add it to that.

Thanks for your reply.

I was thinking finance might be an issue. It would be a lease purchase where I pay a set amount at the end rather than a lease hire where I hand it back. Maybe I could set the residual to be lower. I have a while yet, but it would be a shame if that was the thing that stops me being able to consider one.

Hmm must be something about the F10 M5, I also have one and am currently deciding which Yank to import out of Hellcat, Camaro ZL1/Z28 or Shelby Mustang GT350!

What it doesn't state above - but I feel is pretty important, is to drop the oil at 1,000 miles (i.e. after the initial break-in period) and then pick up the schedule at 6k. That said, I change mine at 5k miles intervals, rather than 6 - mine is only a lowly 392 Scat Pack, but gets a once a month excursion to my local drag strip, so it's important to keep on top of the oil condition.

I was also looking at all of those cars; I pretty much rued out the ZL1 as id prefer the Hellcat. The GT350 looks very nice, but I expect it is very hard to get hold of.

Is anyone on this thread the owner of the red Hellcat I spoke to at the Halesworth Jet garage the other week?

£2,600 eekeekeek Seriously WTF have you been up to or are you just 10 years old? That is shockingly bad - I'd try A-Plan and ClassicLine as well as look through Classic American and American Car World for ins co. adverts

Funnily enough, 31 yo, 6yr NCB, 5 other cars, and limited mileage of 5k...

Got Brentacre to quote £892. NFU would not give me a price until the truck has been registered.
