Hi guys,
Who do you use?

Adrian Flux just quoted £2600 fully comp on a new F150 in a safe post code, 5k miles pa, and 6yr NCB.

For a comparison, I paid £400 last year on a newHilux...

I use NFU, have been paying £4-500 pa for various American trucks including a Roush supercharged F150 a couple of years ago, nothing brand new though but I wouldn't have thought that would be a problem.

Thanks. Do you happen to have the number? I can find NFU, but don't seem to be able to contact the "insurance" department...

That does sound high.

I alternate between Flux and A-Plan and have never paid more than £600 for any of my cars.

I use A-Plan on my Mustang and feel happy enough with their service to recommend them.

Call their Newbury branch for American car insurance.

I was having trouble with my SRT 10 ram and ended up paying £780. They weren't interested about my no claims and I couldn't transfer NCB from my car and wanted proof I'd driven left hand drive previously and hit list of quick stuff I'd owned before.

Eventually our company broker got it sorted (Geoffrey Simmonds Insurance, Gravesend) and annoyingly about a week later Flux called back and said ok £550.

I considered cancelling the policy and calling Flux but I've had a relationship with these guys and they had recently got £2k off my public liability, so let it run.

Not many downsides to LHD and American motoring other than not bein able to stick your reg in Confused.com and get a quote from 20 companies in 2 minutes. Just got to ring round.....old school!

Thanks for the replies.

I am going to call the companies whose names have been mentioned. I think Flux are trying it. Most of the insurers I know always have, too. So nothing new here wink

Strangely, NFU are saying the post code I live in (outskirts of West London) is not rural enough to consider ...
A-Plan on the other hand insist on having provable experience of driving LHD cars...

Left a few enquiries. So far got down to £879. Still waiting on four parties to say what they think, but it is clear that Adrian Flux are trying it. Moreover, when I called back to compare their quote, conditions, etc, the guy I spoke to was quite short, and borderline rude, as if he wanted to tell me they were not that interested.

Sounds like Flux don't want your business.

This is common with American vehicle insurance in the UK. Insurers only have so much capacity for odd vehicles. Once they've hit their limit of desirability they'll price themselves out of the market. You may well find they'll be the cheapest next year if they want to increase their coverage in the market.

I use my local NFU office as I have my business insurance there too but a quick google;

http://www.nfumutual.co.uk/campaigns/car-insurance...

They were fantastic when I had to claim a couple of years ago too, let me choose repairer instead of there recommended, I do have 5 policies with them though, so I don't know if that helps.

Thanks.

Still waiting for NFU to get back to me after they have said the post code was not good.

Surprised, as my Prowler is with Adrian Flux, it was less than 300 a year for 3000 miles but I am an old git in an 'A' postcode with it in a locked garage.

Wow! So, mine is an E!

Anyways, spoke to NFU again, and I am astounded. So, now they say, that they will not give me a price (yes, you heard it right, NOT not insure, but NOT give me the price) until the vehicle has been registered with DVLA. And when Imsaid to them that I need insurance in order to get the vehicle registered, and I could take a 7 day insurance before I let them take over the cover, they said that it was too much risk for their underwriters to provide price (NOT even cover) before I met certain criteria.

That has just blown my mind! I feel I have taken more risk by just calling them, and risking getting a mental health issue, than them by giving a price...

You don't need insurance to register a vehicle. Haven't done so for a long time.

I'm with Flux too.
2005 6.0 V8 Cadillac Escalade
27 yrs old
9 NCB
5k miles a year
'E' postcode apparently

£352.
That's my girlfriend, my 25 year old brother and my 24 year old friend.
Fully comprehensive on other vehicles too!

P.s You don't need insurance to register with DVLA. Not for quite some time now actually.

I'm 30, but getting a stupid price, perhaps because the vehicle is new.

Ok, I might not need insurance to get the vehicle registered, but how does that relate to not bwing able to get a price?

Just curious on the LHD experience. I assume that is LHD experience driving in the UK? Rather than just experience of a LHD vehicle.

Curious to see how you get on with the F150 on British roads/parking etc, as I will come back at some point and am seriously thinking about bringing the truck back with me. Is by far THE best car(!) I have ever owned - and I just would not want to be without it.
