Jeep SRT8 temptation
Discussion
Hi all, really starting to consider one now, not been able to test drive one yet as they are all too far away and just have zero time available at the moment, my main concern is the ability to have a "Sunday hoon", I'm no pro driver so never push a car to its limits, but do like to get a bit enthusiastic lol, can any owners help please!
I had one for a few days, while my 300C was having some warranty work done on it. This was a 2009 model, so with 6.1 425hp motor, as opposed to current 6.4 485hp.
It was still a hard launching, very stout car - all wheel drive and 425lb/ft of torque made it monstrously fast off the line for a vehicle of this mass. It was nice and roomy, but the interior fittings (although squeak/vibration free) were kind of cheap. The current car is lightyears better in this regard. Very comfortable driving position - lots of toys - zero off-road or tow capability (latter possible with an expensive exhaust mod) - voracious appetite for premium grade fuel.
A bit of a quirky choice in the UK I'd imagine, but they have cult status here in the US, because they are so mod friendly.
I have a very nippy 392 Hemi Challenger and I'm respectful of a black one in my neighborhood that makes a suspicious, high pitched whining sound on approach and a deafening bellow as it passes by.

Go get one, simple lol
We had the old overland grand Cherokee with the 4-7 which was a rocket and so much fun, the srt8 is an awesome engine (I have a challenger srt8) and a big step up from what we had, my buddy has a supercharged one and loves it, all I will say is go drive one and you will want it, for the grin factor alone, yes they can be juicy if playing but fairly reasonable of plodding, I really want to change my wife's 300c for one but the wife thinks having 2 6-1 litre cars for dailys a bit too much but the prices at the moment are so reasonable I'm very tempted indeed

I had mine for about two and a half years and only circumstances made me change it. Terrific beast. Doing only 2,000 miles a year took the sting out of the fuel consumption.
The only grumble I had with it was the low geared steering which meant a lot of arm twiddling on roundabouts and turnings.
Just as someone said on the US SRT8 forum, my dog learned to lie down whenever we were stopped at lights or intersections to be ready for the take-off

That's a beast! Might have to travel up to you after all if your still offering a ride!lawl. could give two poops about interior when I'm blowing by cars costing two or three times as much. gary, I'm in cambs, so it's doable, but I won't have mine until this winter. demon performance is turbo'ing my 15 as we speak and then I gotta wait for it to get her ON A BOAT! but then, maybe you won't want a ride in mine cuz it won't necessarily be representative of a stock one.
In my experience, the SRT8 was not at all brilliant in slippery conditions and, when a 2 tonne+ vehicle with that much power starts going sideways on ice, you need quick reactions and a delicate right foot.
The 'intelligent' AWD kicks in a split second after the rears start to spin. If you're heavy footed an awful lot can happen in that split second. Be warned. Drive like it's a RWD and you'll be OK (relatively).
You may have seen videos of Yank cars churning through a foot of snow. Chunky winter tyres will give grip in that. Good luck with sourcing them in the UK.
