Factory recalls
Discussion
Advice wanted please.
I've had a little break between selling my F150 and recently buying an SRT10. When I car faxed the vehicle a possible air bag fault with a manufacturers recall issued as of last month. I've had a little google around and not found much out.
What's the situation with getting the work done in the UK? The dealer I was buying from insisted I could 'drop it into any Dodge dealer,' and they'd sort it without fuss.
I didn't think that would be case and said I'd like to see him try and book it in at the local dealer. I paid what I'd consider sensible money for it so wasn't too bothered at the time.
I've just had a thought that it might not pass its next MOT with outstanding 'safety' work.
If anyone has managed to get any warranty or recall work done in the UK I'd be interested to hear how it went.
Cheers
Dave

Generally speaking you'd be on your own.
However, safety related factory recalls, like the F150 fuel tank strap problem, tend to still get sorted out even though the vehicle is outside of its domestic market.
Speak to a Dodge/Jeep dealer, who will initially so no, and stress to them it's safety related and that they need to speak to their regional aftersales manager.
I've had work done this way without too many problems.

Enter your VIN here - this should tell you if your vehicle is subject to any recall.

Several members of the Challenger community have had success with Chrysler dealers for recall work, in fact, mine alerted me to a recall. As you would expect, some are more helpful than others.
TH White, in my experience, and I hear Hughes from another owner, have both been exemplary.

I had the fuel tanks straps done under the factory recall in the UK FOC at my local Ford dealer. However, safety related factory recalls, like the F150 fuel tank strap problem, tend to still get sorted out even though the vehicle is outside of its domestic market.

That's encouraging. It's not an emergency to get this recall work done, I've got a list of things to do to get the truck sorted, new boots being the first stop next weekend.
I'll try one of the more friendly dealers mentioned above and see how I get on.

If your truck is fitted with a Takata steering wheel airbag, I'd disagree with that statement.I'm a glass half full, think positive sort of guy!
Im Talking with Dodge in the US and Chrysler HQ about this right now...
I have the paper work on the recall and what vehicles are affected

PS more than welcome with the truck....

Thanks for your concern Matt but by my reckoning if it's lasted 10 years without a problem I'll sort it out at some point this year.

I certainly respect your view - but remember, the fault would only become an issue if the airbag was energized by an accident - i.e. as long as it's not activated, it's not a problem.I'm a glass half full, think positive sort of guy!
The recall is due to certain types of airbag that cause fragmentation of hard plastic and metal shards when activated, some of which may be propelled with shotgun-like energy, right at the drivers upper body/head.
I too am glass-half-full, generally, but if I had a device with the same destructive force as a 12 gauge cartridge embedded in my steering wheel that might blast me in the face if I had an accident, I'd want to get it replaced - just in case.

It's on the list Matt, to be fair I only bought it at the weekend and the first stop for me is some decent tyres. The recall is due to certain types of airbag that cause fragmentation of hard plastic and metal shards when activated, some of which may be propelled with shotgun-like energy, right at the drivers upper body/head.

I appreciate the truck hasn't done many miles in the last few years in its previous ownership but why anyone with a vehicle like this would bomb about with barely legal, cheapo Chen Shing Roadrunners with obvious cracking to the side walls is beyond me.
I'm planning on catching up on some 'paperwork' at home tomorrow, that's code for sorting a few truck bits out and calling a dealer regarding this. Will update if I get success.
I'm liking the friendly and knowledgeable forum so far chaps!
Mines on the recall list as well, must call my local dealer but was holding off as the status from Dodge suggested that the actual parts for the fix were not available. It says the status is:
INCOMPLETE BUT REPAIR PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE
Not sure what that means. I get that status for both recalls on my truck - it also has a recall for the drive shaft potentially falling off due to a lack of thread lock on the pinion nut.

I checked to see if my F350 was subject to anything after reading something on http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php, as it was only a $20 part I just bought it from the USA & it will get fitted at next service.
Apologies for the lack of update on the recall warranty work. I've been pre occupied refurbing the wheels and sorting some cosmetic odds and ends out. I must say a decent set of tyres has made a huge difference to the driving experience.
I'm dropping the truck into a specialist tomorrow for a mechanical once over and exhaust, I will gather the strength to ring the Chrysler place in Aylesford soon and bring the recall up...
Will let you know how I get on....
