Pipes for a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis
Discussion
I'm in SW London and just wondered if any of you know of anywhere nearby that does minor modding on more modern US cars.
I bought my MGM just as a way to scratch an itch about owning and driving a big V8 sedan through London's busy streets. Something I have got to really enjoy doing, more than I would have thought.
The idea was to keep for a few months and sell on but now I'm thinking of keeping it for longer and getting a year of US car insurance under my belt. It can't be my only car as the only insurance I could get was 2nd car only, so I'm still running my Beemer but hardly driving it.
Now I have stood behind my MGM with the revs high and it's whisper quiet and I want that V8 burble. It's a dual exhaust HPP car originally bound for the Middle East.
I've seen a UK company with MagnaFlow pipes for later Crown Vics/MGMs and they were £700 and then I would have to get them fitted so just wondering what advice any of you lot would have just to get a nice bit of V8 sound?
Thanks.

If it's just noise (rather than performance) you seek…

Removing the factory air box and intake and installing an aftermarket CAI will make it louder on the induction side too - but beware of cheapo plumbing that creates MAF/MAP problems and check-engine lights.

Simply take the car to someone like Pipecraft at Basildon and they will fabricate a new system for you which will sound as good as you like. http://www.pipecraft.info/
Well, apart the crappy headlights, that's the only issue I have with the car as well. I don't want anything 'look at me', but definitely want to have proper V8 sound.
For me this appears to be a fine solution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xLUHpcVXl8

I have a Ford LTD (Australian) It has an injected 302 windsor. It was far too quiet so i had the big tri flow muffler replaced with a hot dog style muffler. Sounds like a v8 now but its not too loud and doesn't drone at speed.
I'm not chasing performance it'S just a cruiser so the sound was all i was after.
