Hi,

Just seen Chris Harris's latest Drive video comparing the Z28 against a 911 GT3, given the price of the Z28 it makes a very tempting proposition as it has decent suspension and ceramic brakes.

Does anyone know if this will be coming to Europe or would you have to personally import one or is it just too early to know either way?

From what I've heard they are being officially imported into the UK (Yay)!

Would be interested to hear how many people have put in an order as I'd like to have one of these used in the near future! biggrin

80K is a lot of money for a Camaro, ceramic brakes or otherwise.
I don't think there's a chance in hell that GM will 'officially' supply this car to the UK - they are made (now) in such small numbers and the US order book is full.
Perhaps Bauer Millet will supply one or two, but it's hardly a mainstream car - certainly not the kind of vehicle most folks would care to use as a daily drive.

You'd also be better off ordering one in yourself rather than going through the 'Official' GM import, if anything on being more 'tax efficient' and not having to pay new car tax, and the extortionate tax band rate. By being a personal import you end up only paying £225 a year.

I don't think it applies to certain cars because my 1998 Euro-Z28 was the same tax as imported cars as it didn't have an official C02 figure. I think TVRs pay the lower rate for the same reason, low volume exemption.

The ZL1 is also a great car at a cheaper price. You have to ask yourself if you drive a car hard enough to really need ceramic brakes.

I also don't see this coming as an official import. I bought mine via a European importer and should pick her up next week after ordering back in April.

As a comparison to the ZL1, its clear the Z/28 is a track biased car, and you wont need the brakes and aero of the Z/28 on the road, where the ZL1 is the smarter proposition.

Not as much in it as you might think.

The Z/28 was 11 seconds up on the ZL1 before the rain

So, assuming GM will not import it to Europe and I really decided I wanted one, do I speak to a US dealer myself or are there UK companies that will arrange purchase and ship?

American Car Center reckon it will cost the US price of $75,000 in pounds to bring one to the UK with shipping, taxes, SVA etc

I think that the larger issue is actually being able to source one. This is not the type of car that is jamming dealer lots over here. I've only ever seen one in the flesh and that was at the factory.

Indeed, did the Challenger Hellcat No. 1 just make over $800,000 at auction.
Also, US dealers don't have to sell at list, they can sell for whatever people will pay and new models generally make 20k over list for a while.

A US dealer won't want to speak to you if you're outside the US as they are restricted by GM from selling a Z/28 to someone they know will export it. So you either need to be there or have a local intermediary who can source you one.

The usual importers will be able to get you one if you really want one. Regardless of whether the US dealer wants a premium, you will need to pay the middle man something on top of the import/VAT/shipping/etc.

Stay at it, I took delivery of mine today. Loving it biggrin
