Where are the V8 Camaros for less than £5000?

Here's a low mileage Camaro maybe worth putting a £5k offer in for (if you like the colour)

This is a bloody good buy! If I wasn't so attached to my Third Gen and if I knew I could sell it for that much, I would have that off you tomorrow. Especially after seeing how well you can tune it and analyse the data on it. Does it come with the modified ECU? Not less than £5k, but loads of sensible upgrades

Yeah, ECU is factory, but has EFILive custom OS5 with GM Holden OEM Lean cruise enabled OS is set up to handle boost and NOS if wanted. But I dont think it needs either. So OEM ECU, but EFIlive enhanced OS in it.
If anyone wants the Roadrunner ECU as well Im sure something can be arranged..
They do seem to be like the proverbial busses.
I'm afraid you will need patience, but they definately do exist.
I bought mine in Nov last year for just over £3k, and there were 2 others on the market at the time.
Ebay and Pistonheads are the places I'd look.
mine was advertised Thursday and I bought left a deposit friday. When I collected on Sunday the seller said he had had a fair few calls. might have just been the usual verbals, but I have already committed to buy, so he had no cause.
The others hung around sometime, but weren't as tidy.

Stay away from LT1 cars IMO. They aren't that fast, aren't that reliable and IMO they don't look as good.
Also 1998 F-bodies had some funky stuff on them, best ones are 99-02 cars for F-bodies.
That red Z/28 has tasteful minor modifications, I dig it!
Each to their own, although at the budget a good LT1 will be easier to find than LS.Also 1998 F-bodies had some funky stuff on them, best ones are 99-02 cars for F-bodies.

I'm on my 4th LT1 engined car (3 of which were camaros). Yes it makes less bhp than the lS1, although having had an LS1, there is more torque from the LT1.
In probably 8 years running something with an LT1, I have replaced one water pump and one air con pump. The only weakness I'm aware of is the opti-spark and that hardy deserve giving the car the reputation of unreliable.
Interested in comment "1998 F-bodies had some funky stuff on them" ? I didn't think the spec changed much? official UK imports (which don't exist for LT1s) had firebire seats?

I guarantee the LS1 has more torque. Though I accept the LT1 may have more low rpm torque. Peak torque for the LS1 is 4400 and the LT1 is 2400.I'm on my 4th LT1 engined car (3 of which were camaros). Yes it makes less bhp than the lS1, although having had an LS1, there is more torque from the LT1.

I used to have a '93 LT1 with the Hotcam and it went well. But the optispark sucks.

I am guilty as charged. I was refering to that low end grunt and purely subjectively too!I used to have a '93 LT1 with the Hotcam and it went well. But the optispark sucks.
I don't want to start any fighting over which engine is the better (err as I think I'd loose!).
However, writting off the LT1, particulary when on a budget, seems harsh. With an exhaust and intake its not far off 300bhp, which isn't exactly limp wristed, albeit in the times of AMG battling BMW Ms doesn't impress quite like it used to.
Given the OP appears to be comming from a MX5, I think an LT1 will prove a exciting new engine in terms of constrast.

98 models have different, fuel pump and tank and IIRC they have a different wiring harness, as well as some other more minor stiff (electrical connectors and loom differences mostly). I'm from Canada, where, if you buy an LT1 F-body you're almost certainly planning your LSx swap right away. Especially an iron block 5.3, because they're so cheap. LS1's are a lot easier to make gains on and IMO much easier to work on, especially in F-body cramped engine bay.
Also low end grunt in F-bodies isn't always great, the rear ends are very strong! I blew mine up real good. (Granted I made 430rwtq lol)
