hi for all the Q's, but I have a chevy express 8.1L 2002 and just want to know if I can de-cat the exhaust and possibly go for a straight through system, to create a better and true sounding V8 sound

Strictly speaking, you are supposed to have a cat but as long asi t passes the emissions test, you should get away with it. Yank engines tend to be quite clean. My friend's Z06 blew it's cats out and his straight-through exhaust passes.
Bear in mind they don't have a figure so use an exhaust Tapley meter (?) to test the levels.

You just need to find a friendly MOT centre who is sympathetic to American cars

My F150 has ad the guts removed from the cats as they were breaking up inside, it passed emissions test easily without.
