Hi,

I'm currently in Las Vegas and the local Chevy dealer is advertising new model Camaros for $20,995. Is it still a rough guide that by the time you get a car back to the UK from the US it will cost you the same in pounds as it was in dollars? I.e. could you get a Camaro back to the UK for around GBP20k all in?

Also, is there much interest in Camaro (specifically base models) in the UK?

Yes, pretty much $$$ to £££.

Don't forget to add in the cost of the light conversion, SVA test, Road Tax, Number Plates & registration over here.

You'll still save money though, basically the dealer mark up.

Are those V8's for that price?

Ok, so maybe another 1-2k to cover all that? Doesn't sound too bad..

That was the price for a new 2014 V6 base model.

Personally I'd probably prefer a Mustang, i'd love to find a new base model for the same price as the Camaro...

That's still about $5k less than list out in the US, so it's a deal (although I have no idea what sort of discounts you can generally get). Does anyone pay list for a Chevy? Probably not!

I work that out to be just under £20k to get it over and sorted. Probably more in reality depending on who you use to ship etc.

Wasn't there some kind of issue recently with US dealers being discouraged to sell cars for direct personal export ?

One thing to bear in mind when buying a V8 from Vauxhall dealers is £1000 road tax for the first year, then £490 per year after that. Possibly one of the reasons they can't shift them. They have now had £8k shaved off the purchase price (top spec 2SS/RS convertible was £43k down to £35k, hotwheels SS coupe down from £41k to £33k)

I feel sorry for people trying to sell 2nd hand Camaro's now, as they were advertised at £30k for a 3 year old, so what are these worth now? low 20's?

Chevrolet have now abandoned the idea of European sales I heard recently

Buy an import, or import yourself and its only £235 road tax per year.

Crumbs! never realised how much they'd sting you for VED on a new car.

ETA Better tell this garage that Vauxhall are punting 'em out new at £8k less. Maybe it has loads of extras.

Hotwheels Camaro is the one I would choose

from this (£41520) http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/c...

to this (£33999) http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/c... (but I would be asking why they've changed the wheels from the originals)

If you buy a camaro over here yes the road tax is about £500 a year plus another £500 quid to rejested it for the first year so what the smart people do is get one in from the US and the road tax =£210 a year with no rejestration fee,its all to do with the uk car is a european car so taxed on exhaust co,2s but the US one is a gray import so taxed on engine size which =£210 per year.gray imort cars only have 2 engine size,s big and small, camaro,s come into the large size. When buying any yank its always best to get US car.

But can you import a V8 new for £30k vs uk supplied one (which includes 1st year tax btw) ?

Also how do you stand on warranty for uk supplied car vs an import ?

I've never taken notice of car tax bands , as in the big scheme of things it's small fry vs depreciation and fuel bills

What ever they are in the US now by the time its over here and on the road its about the same price you got to look in to it,as far as warranty goes mine came with a 3year independent warranty not a main dealer one which covered every thing, saying that you buying one over here yes it would have a warranty but due think your local vauxhall dealer would no what they are doing on it,yeah right,,,,,no you find yank specialist .Tax at £500 a year will soon piss you of much better at £210 and if your concerned about the fuel bills then don,t buy one.

Fair point re specialist.

Re $=£ when imported, makes sense. Can you get a new V8 in the States though for less than $30k, to compete with the UK discount ?

However re fuel, I never mentioned I had a problem with it.......I'm used to gas guzzlers wink. I'm just pointing out that £290 saving a year on car tax when spending £30k on a car and say £3k a year in fuel (10k miles) , doesn't make a big difference. What's that, 4 gallons of fuel a month difference .

Just my humble.

Must say I prefer split rear lights of the 2013 car, vs 2014

Anyway , imported or from uk, stunning cars and if lucky enough, maybe I'll get to own one, one day smile

"*Model shown is a Chevrolet Camaro Coupe for illustrative purposes only. " wink

A great deal. A new (list) Astra VXR with options is more than that. I'd have a hard time not buying one if I were in the market (alas, I must wait and the offer will be long gone by then!)
