Hi All

Just a quick query.
As per title, can a UK Jeep Patriot be legally fitted with square front and rear number plates?

I`m not talking about anything undersized or with stupid font`s or graphics, just bog standard square UK plates with the proper GB marker and postcode etc. I.E. Fully road/MOT legal?

The car just looks a bit odd with the regular UK plates on it (imo).

Thanks guys.

Square plates ( as fitted to the rear of Defenders / on artics etc ) with full size letters are legal, plates using smaller / motorcycle letters are only legal on imports with small plate apatrures

Thanks guys, plates now made up will be fitted later this week.
Above posters are correct, no legal issues with full size uk square plates on any vehicle, legally.

Responses mainly correct, except that number plates with two lines of character are not lawful for cars (with exceptions like Land Rovers) first registered after a certain date - I can't remember the date off-hand, but will look for it some other time, when I am really bored.

Wrong, quoted from http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_...

For vehicles with new or replacement number plates fitted from 1 September 2001, “3-line” number plates are no longer permitted (except where the vehicle was first registered before 1 January 1973). HTH (I must be bored)

SHRob - Thanks for the correction - I knew there was something out there, but age and fatigue aren't good companions to boredom. smile

I think the only 3 line plates I have seen have been on military vehicles & they have been a lot newer than that.
