I need help from you guys,as I have nightmare with my imported Lincoln
Navigator. You wont believe how much bad luck I got with trying to register this car.
Firstly I done conversion lights etc.. Car pass mot ,I insure asweell so i went to DVLA in Borehamwood.
They told that car have to be registered for NOVA system,so I call them they told me "dont have to as car been imoprted prior 1.04.2013.Great I went back to DVLA ,told them that, now they asking me for dating later.
Fine i get that,go back to them ,paid fee for registering & road tax. Done.
Few days later letter come from DVLA again that " I need to register for NOVA" -so I call them confirm & and send documents back.Suprise suprise receive documents back " we dont know which reg we should probide, could you ask Ford/Lincoln provide exact date of first registration""
Done this within 2 days by email, send documents back to DVLA.
Received back " on cover note should be full chassis number"....
Call insurance Graham Sykes ,,answer " yes we know that DVLA will not accept that" !!!I ask them 3 times ,they admitted!! Do you believe that?? And then " we can provide you need cover note but ,you need to pay extra £737 to change insurance from TPFT to Full Comprehensive!!! RANSOM!!
At the end they cancel my policy!!Spend now 2 days looking insure motor.HELP GUYS PLEASE,as Im about to give up...

What do you need help with?

If it's just finding an insurer just type American car insurance into google.

Adrian Flux, A-Plan, MCE, Sureterm and many others will pop up. It's a case of ringing them all until one will help I'm afraid.

What reasons are they giving for not insuring you?

They're the usual people who will.

Right. A few questions.

How old is the car?

How long has it been in the country? I'm assuming quite a while if it's exempt from NOVA.

Why didn't they accept your C&E form?

How long has the insurance been running?

Why won't they give you a cover note with covering schedule with the full VIN on it?

Car is 2002 (but 2003 model),been imported prior that NOVA system come ,
duty with HMRC been sorted.Insurance been running for 30 days, but because of the Idiots working in DVLA,I run out of the time ,and then Graham Sykes insurance wont give me another cover note with full chassis number unless I pay them
£737 (they know that DVLA will dont accept the first one).
Now almost everything sorted ,even I know Lincoln will get 52 plate just need to find insurance company.
Spend 2 days now, calling everyone who come up on google, and so far dont get any luck.

By the Im taking Graham Sykes insurance to Ombudsmen, for selling me wrong policy & demanding more money after 30 days & refusing to refund.

Anyone can recommend any company not mention above ?

Reason for not insuring from some of them:
-" you living in london" ,
-" we cant insure because you dont have experience to drive car like this"---I own Navigator before for 4 years from 2006- 2010 ,they answer " yes but last 3 years you dont drive american car"
- " 0 zero NCB" -- well I got 9 years on other car I got
-or been quoted today £4600!!
Im 38,been driven for last 21years with just one non-fault accident...
Just one big nightmare!!

Good to hear they're up to their same old tricks. Took them to the Ombudmens over a similar thing, they refused to except a no claims discount proof even when we had the previous 6 years worth of NCB certificate, wanted a stupid amount for the correction to the policy, we said no and wanted to cancel and refused to offer any amount as we were outside the 14 day period. Took them to the ombudsman, won. Would avoid them at ALL costs.

Classicline are good, Stevenage insurance services are good. I'm currently with Herts Insurance consultants.

Classic line dont have Lincoln Navigator in system,so they cant do it.Stevenage boys cant insure because Im living in "hotspot area-London".Herts give me quote for £2500 (good thing is ,I can drive whole years on chassis number)looks like I dont really have choice and need to go ahead with them.
At least car hopefully get registerer unless idiots from DVLA find something new.

Btw do I mention that when I went to Borehamwood DVLA office ,and I was paying for road tax, lady behind desk want charge me £42 for 6 months road tax?!!for 5400 petrol engine. Should be £123 (6mths),or £220 for year.
So now guys you know why they closing all offices from 13 december.

If you've sent them your original C&E form with the paperwork I'm struggling to see why they're having a problem with it. Most at the DVLA would be more used to seeing that than the NOVA stuff.

I really can't remember the last time we had one sent back.

Two things.

1. Keep your hair on. I only said I was surprised they keep asking for NOVA forms if you've correctly supplied them with the more readily known C&E forms.

2. I have no idea what you've amended your OP in the last hour to read differently from originally posted.

Registering a US import in the UK is easy.

V55c correctly filled in, C&E or NOVA forms, insurance, certificate of title, proof of ID and ownership, MOT and IVA as necessary, relevant fee.

What are they saying you haven't provided?

That NOVA thing is "killing me".
I know is should be easy, they telling me I need to register for NOVA,when I called NOVA they told me
" your car is imported prior 1.04.2013 when system come live,so you do not need"
Stamp of importation date & HMRC clearance is on CE 388 form.
I already talk NOVA & DVLA 3-4 times over the phone and they confirm that ,but if I post documents (and I write down this),some idiot asking me to register.
Last time mr.Owen this time mr.Lock. Im going talk to them again on monday.

Btw Im driving in chassis numbers...got insurance/mot/road tax is paid on counter in DVLA office..

Re road tax:
In Borehamwood DVLA office I paid fee for registering car £55 + fee for road tax.
Its not issued yet,but under chassis number ref in DVLA system,Im legally to drive ( insured, mot, fee paid for road tax).
They & insurance company confirm that.
