But why can't sellers of American cars and trucks actually list and detail what the vehicle is?

I think Dodge Rams are the worst, maybe because they have been popular and there's usually several for sale. But WTF make it clear what they are in the ads.

For example... when considering something like a Ram it's rather critical to know if it's a 4wd or a 2wd model as Dodge offered both.

And maybe it's silly of me, but I'd also like to know if it's a 1500 or a 2500 and maybe even what engine and transmission it has.

Pretty basic stuff I'd have thought.

I know listing specific such as if it has the off road package, tow package or what axles it has are less likely. But come on some of the omissions are fairly significant.

Or is it that most potential buyers in the UK simply don't care at all what they are buying? confused

That is fairly obvious though.

With later IFS 1500's yes, assuming the pics are big enough to see this. But earlier Rams (BR/BR) it's a not always easy to tell as they both run live front axles.

Are you saying you can't tell the difference between a 1500 and a 2500 unless the photo is of good enough quality to tell what type of front axle the truck has got?

Really?

Yes that assumes there are decent pictures
Most are hopeless !! ie never a engine picture
or inside the bed or ,drivers seat, shamefull when compared with the eBay USA listings
Most have about 80 pictures and the full options listed ....

Maybe you could give me some pointers then?

Here sort of what I mean, although I know this one is a 1500 due to the short bed and number of wheel studs (and one of the pics wink ). But the ad conveniently doesn't say..

It also doesn't say if it's 2wd or 4wd, although I'd guess at 2wd. And note it's listed as a 5.7 Hemi V8, which unless it's had an engine swap isn't true.

Anther example, again you can tell this is a 1500. But is it 2wd or 4wd? Is it really a 3.7 V6?

I'm sure you can see what I mean. If you are looking for something specific, then you need the info to find it smile

Ride height is an instant give away that it's only 2WD. Do you not also think that if it was a 4WD it would clearly state it as it's a selling feature?

You'd better take that up Autotrader then as it's a default engine on their system when loading Dodge Ram adverts.

Good luck, I've been complainging about it for years. Like their assumption that all Rams are 4x4, even SRT-10s. Admittedly the very latest version of dealer portal allows a bit more freedom but if it's not the type of vehicle you deal with regularly it's easy to get wrong.

See above about 2WD and 4WD.

As for it being a V6. Why not?

Not really, and if you're looking for something specific you'd know what you were looking at/for.

I thought you were the American vehicle aficionado on here?

I know you are in the trade, but I'm hardly have a dig you or your ads, but I am surprised at how blind you are wanting to be at this.

I admit looking today there aren't so many badly described, but it happens. I've been looking on and off for some time. And it's as a potential buyer, rather than seller it does happen a lot with these.

But as a potential buyer you know waht you're looking for and the differences are fairly obvious.

As already stated, one of the big problems is Autotraders default settings for Rams.
