I have a small block Chevy and noticed there's a bolt missing on the exhaust flange.
The bolt configuration is 6 either side but one side has only 5.

Do you think this matters?
All the other bolts are torqued correctly.

My only concern is the gasket may leak under high rpms. It's really hard to get in there to replace it assuming I can find a suitable bolt as well.

Any thoughts?

Is that a cast iron manifold or headers? If cast iron and it's been that way for years, I probably wouldn't worry about it. Just rev the engine up and see if there's any blow by.

The reason the bolts missing is probably because it got sheared off the last time some one did any work on it. You never know though, you might be lucky and someone just lost it it forgot it.

Only if it blows. Spray some water/WD40 along the join (cold) and start it and see if it blows away. If it's that hard to get at, it may have been left off for that reason.

Thanks guys, it's really hard to get at so I'm assuming it's been left off. Doesn't seem to blow so I'll leave it for the mo..
Ps its on a boat motor, not that this makes much difference...
