For that sort of money you will find it hard to get something in tip top sort of shape unless you look at late camaro or firebirds (90's car) which you would get a decent 4 seater car that's modern enough to be fun and reliable, you may get a 60 mustang 2 door notch back but i wouldn't expect a tip top one or you could look at a C4 corvette mid to late 80's or early 90's shape, I would expect you to get a fairly decent one for £6k the C3 70's shape you would get a car but it would want some work, you get the odd transam (smokey and the bandit shape) but at that money again it would be a bit rough needing work, so depends what your looking for really and if you want an ongoing project to work on and improve or something you can just jump in and go ?

90s Mustang or Camaro.

Cheap, durable, and easy to make them very fast for little outlay.

A 4th gen Camaro. Fast, fun and reliable with seating for 4 adults.

Thanks for you replies.

Think I should wait until the budget is a bit bigger so I can buy something more complete.

Get a 99+ fbody with the LS1

Anything previous is inferior smile

Alternately you might get a Monaro for that. Which would arguably be better value.

I have been looking at them with some interest ... Why so "cheap" compared to a bit of American muscle ? Demand ?

LHD and yank will generally keep prices up compared to UK RHD Vauxhall badged Monaro's.

As for a £5k Yank. You could with a bit of hunting get a very nice Fox body Mustang. A bit plain Jane looking but a few mods can look clean. Can be very good performers with a few mods.

3rd and 4th Gen Fbody's (Camaro/Firebird). The 3rds look really good but not as quick as you'd maybe think. Also not as easy to extract power from as the Fox Mustang. The 4th Gens are very good performers. 98 onwards runs the LS1 and is pretty darn fast even in stock trim. Euro model ones might be in budget just. Although they all seem to hold their money well.

If you are really lucky you might find a C4 Vette in budget. But these do seem to be in the up.

Ram trucks or an older Dodge, Blazer or Bronco might be in budget.

Ford Thunderbirds are often very cheap. But could make a good understated Yank V8.

Hi Richard, was that after seeing my yank at the weekend? wink

Whole heartedly agree though, if I buy another Camaro ill be going for post 98 with some sort of LS engine.

OT: Richard, it turns out my dads already emailed you about his car, will be getting in touch I think once he's had the torque convertor fitted. Thanks again for running through and explaining EFILive on Saturday!
