I am looking at bringing in two U.S army jeeps in from Belgium. Circa 1968 and 1971. Both vehicles have Dutch papers. The plan was to go over and drive them back. Question is what do I need to do as regards to registering them when I get them back. And how do I go about insuring them to drive them back to the UK.

I suppose this question is aimed at Roo. But anyone feel free to chip in if they have done something similar.

If they're already EU registered all you need to do with them here is get an MOT.

Belgian registration papers, proof of ID and insurance and you're good to go to get them registered.

Insurance is done on the VIN. You could technically prebook an MOT and drive them straight to that. However it's illegal for a UK resident and licence holder to drive a foreign registered car in the UK unless it's a company or hire car.

The prebooked MOT should get round that but if you get an arsey copper it might be trouble.

So in essence a broker will be able to insure it on the bin alone. And if i have the m.o.t already booked i can drive on to the ferry with them and head for the m.o.t station??.

Slightly Different, but when I imported my Viper from the USA, You insured the car on the VIN Chassis number then drove the car with no registration plates to the Place where the MOT work was going to be done then SVA Test. You are allowed 1 journey wink As Roo said, worth pre booking an MOT with a friendly local garage smile That way if you do get pulled by the Rozzers your covered. (SVA Test not required now). After passing those tests you could then register the car smile Might be worth checking with the Customs office what paperwork they would like to see Just in case they get fussy at the Border?
