Crossfire advice please

Sorry for such a simple question.
The battery in my Crossfire is flat.
Is it safe to charge it with the terminals connected or should I disconnect the terminals and remove the battery before charging.

Battery conditioners do it on the car so in theory, it shouldn't be a problem.

Is it flat for a reason or because it's f*cked though? Batteries will generally only last a maximum of 7 years, usually less.

Boot was not fully closed battery drained after a week of non use.
