Following on from the Viper & No replacement for displacement threads in GC Forum, it got me thinking that I need a V10 and a truck in my life. I have never owned either, so after a bit of searching, I came up with these two examples:

Full ad here: http://tnydu.biz/DOlKV5 which equates to around GBP10k

OR

Full ad here: http://tnydu.biz/DOlI7o which equates to GBP6,333

I have 3 coupe cars, none of which can carry squat, so could do with something to haul crap around in.

Any pro's / cons to owning one of these? I read the other topics on the SRT10's posted but still unsure.

Obviously I have not been to see either yet, albeit the older Ram is tempting me.

Any comments/suggestions/recommendations.

thanks

PS: did not want to put it in the Viper Section.

I wouldn't want that sort of truck with a manual trans so based only on that I would go for the older one. The £4K savings would be a bonus.

You are right of course. I am defo leaning towards the SRT10. There are not many for sale here 2nd hand. Those that are, as per the example above, are all owned by local Emirati's who tend not do the "service history" thing with work being carried out at a mates garage - so can be suspect.

Another thread mentioned crap stock clutch and brake pads - what is the upgrade for the clutch?

The Diesel 6.7l with 350bhp stock can be tuned to near 500bhp with far more torque than the SRT/10 and likely much better mileage..
Thats what Id be looking at.

we do not get diesel variants here. Yes, we can get diesel pick-ups, but that is not for me.

Ahhhhhhhh, I am in Dubai, UAE. Nobody has diesel cars/trucks here unless they are pick-up trucks, lorries etc.

Yes, you could import one, but .............

I would go for the SRT out of the two you posted. They don't have the same engine. As far as I know the v10 in the older truck was released first, this engine was then developed for the viper then after a few years was put into the next gen SRT Ram.
The SRT should have 100-150bhp more.

I think the V10 in the older truck is the Magnum. It has been tuned to 450bhp, which is only 50 down on the SRT. Spoken to both owners. The owner of the older truck was a real petrolhead (owns 6 cars) and knew the truck and the small issues it has. The SRt10 was more difficult as I spoke to an empolyee of the owner who sometimes drives the trucks - he did not know anything.

There is another SRT for sale - completely stock (unlike the one above). Again, the owner is an Emirati, which gives me little faith in how they have been looked after or driven.

To be honest, it will not be going anywhere off-road and won't be pulling anything. We also only get 2-4 days of rain per year. Added to this, at GBP0.30/l for the good stuff, mpg is not an issue.

I assume he means work pick up truck as opposed to sport/fun pick up truck.

Sorry you are correct. I call pick-up trucks those work things made by Tata / Toyota / Mitsubishi etc.
