i have a f150 4.6 1997 and the handbrake is only working on the rear left, i have checked the cable and seems ok, any ideas. can there be a problem with the connection to the shoe?

Usually a broken cable inside the drum. Small and cheap. If it is, replace the other side as well.

If its the same assembly as a 2003 - have you taken up the slack with the adjuster in the hub ?

Mine failed MOT for exactly same reason - tightened it up with the adjuster and passed fine.

Its on the back inside a little black rubber cover - a cog thing that you flick up or down with a screwdriver

It's a small cable, 3-4 -5 inches. It is the adjustment cable. They break often and it won't adjust. It really means the brake is not working at all, hydraulic or cable.

Pull off the drum, and you'll see right away.

You could have a look at the headlight bulb while you're looking at the handbrake cable, since it's been four days since you first asked and no-one's replied.

Well, that's what I would do...getmecoat

The right hand cable can seize up, usually where it has been in close proximity to the exhaust, the heat makes the outer casing brittle which leads to cracking then water ingress, I'm sure you can work out the rest.

Your adjustment cables are probably broken.
