My friend has a 1970 chevelle 454, non numbers matching, older restoration car, red with black stripes. 12 months mot and tax, correctly uk registered on age related plate.

Its very clean, nice engine bay, lovely interior and 100 percent solid underside. Ss replica. Engine is detailed, underside isnt its just solid. Its as good as youd hope to see on uk roads and worthy of going to shows but not a new restoration.

I know its difficult to say but with tatty camaros on ph being up for 20-40k, no chevelles to compare, hes after £47500 for it. Id like the car but am thinking more like £30-35k.

What are your thoughts chaps.

Thanks

IMHO - way, way too expensive (even, questionably for the genuine article)

You may well see tatty Camaros on PH for £20-40k, but they won't sell for that. A non-matching Chevelle won't be worth anything like what your mate thinks it's worth.

If you're happy to spend £35,000, I'd seriously look at importing a pristine 396 SS from US and have enough left for fuel for a couple of years.

I was struggling to sell my '72 Chevelle 350 with all matching numbers for 12k. I know the car you described has 454, but I could put 454 in my Chevelle for 5-6k and would it be worth 35k? I don't think so.

From your description I would be prepared to pay no more than 20-25k for this car unless obviously it has some expensive upgrades.
Can you put some pictures for us to have a look at it.

As was mentioned before, you can have original numbers matching SS from the US for 20k.

Maybe £15000, try a real SS, numbers matching and IMHO a better looking year http://www.moparuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4121...
Muscle cars dont sell in UK for 47k to normal people

Chevelles are a nice car but from what you have described it is not worth what he wants.

A real number matching car could be different but still probably not as much as £35k unless it was utterly utterly pristine.

Mind you, anything is worth what someone will pay, I have been amazed at how much some cars fetch if the person really wants it.

Oh, and Pics ?

A friend of mine bought a semi-decent Chevelle for £8k recently. Just no way is it worth those stratospheric prices.

Ok thanks chaps, so im out on pricing. That dark green one for £18k is nice but presume once its had a paint job its more like £22k.

Any links to any uk chevelles, regardless of condition welcome.

From what youre all saying, £20k seems more realistic?

If i could get a good one for £20k id prob jump at it!

The green one I showed you is a good one, being an SS numbers matching big block car for £18000 I shouldnt think it will last long!! It could be years before another one comes along so you have to jump at it quick or offer your mate 20k for his! Give these guys a ring http://www.classicamericanuk.co.uk/ and tell them your requirements and your budget but remember, you snooze you lose

If you are serious and see one that is advertised as real SS, do your homework as there are tons of fakes. On the streets here they are no Malibus. Just SS's. Funny how only the SS's survived............

I would rather have a clone or a modified base model, I wouldnt want to pay top dollar just because it has matching numbers.

If the numbers don't match, the value is slashed.

UNLESS, and then you'd still take a big hit, its a correct warranty replacement block on an otherwise documented car.

£35,000? Non matching numbers? Maybe if its an otherwise documented LS6........ The difference between the muscle car market in Europe and America is absolutely night and day. First, most GTOs, 442s, SS Chevelles, etc that I've seen in Europe have been clones, and often, but not always, the owners knew it and didn't care. There are VERY VERY few "real" cars that have found their way to Europe largely because Europeans aren't likely to spend £100,000+ just because a car has an extra 30hp and a different air intake and cam. Seemingly insignificant options can doubleor more the value of already expensive cars... Think a 69 Camaro with JL8 brakes that are authentic.

Genuine 1972 and older real Muscle Cars with the RIGHT equipment that's truly documented can be worth insane money. But if you don't know how to spot fake documentation and how to tell a real SS from a fake, assume its a fake.

Correct. It wasn't so long ago that my friend sold a General Lee Charger in great condition for £20k.

Thanks chaps. Some lotus dealer are selling a gen 1 camaro on ph. Ive made an offer which they practically laughed at but i think their 44k is far too optimistic. Whats your thoughts on that one? 25k?

Can't give a value but Mustangs and Gen 1 Camaros tend to be more valuable as they are far more sought after. I wouldn't pay anything like £44k though.
