Isn't it just a HiLux with a frock?

Roo is probably the best chap to speak to.

Nope. It's Toyota's Ford F150 -a full size.

Unless you want to chuck £20k + down the drain in the next twelve months I wouldn't bother.

The Tundra and Titan are the least desirable US trucks in the UK.

They just look like slightly larger versions of the usual UK available Jap pick ups and as they're not very popular they don't come to Europe in sufficient numbers to get factory discounts so they'll be MSRP only. Roughly £10k more than a Ram.

On that on note Roo. Can you answer me a question. How comes you never see any GMC Sierra,s or the better specced Denali in the UK. They look a nice purposeful truck and well equiped. But you see very few if any at all.

Roo hit the nail on the head. I'm in the trade in the US and these things just don't sell.

Fords, Rams and GMC/Chevy trucks are, surprisingly enough, better built and less expensive. In smaller pickups the Tacoma (similar to the Hilux) is the dominant truck in its class, but for full size stuff? Umm, no.

As to why you don't see many Denali pickups in the UK? I hardly ever see them over here. Rare and expensive trucks, for some odd reason the high dollar trucks that I do see tend to be Fords, particularly Harley Davidson models.

I was the same last year - really fancied a Tundra after seeing them while in the States, came back, drew a blank and bought an F150 Harley Davidson instead which is great fun biggrin

I'll buy as many of them as I can get my hands on. The problem is the price of them compared to what we can buy new Rams for.

I think these trucks also attract 22% import duty and you then pay 20% VAT on top.

To Roo and Captain Caddy,

I have longed for the F250 diesel double cab, short bed, King Ranch.
Now I heard from my time in the US, that the early 6.0L diesel engines had an inherent problem, but I really just don't know what it was all about.

I was looking to get a truck which has been used, but not abused.
Some thing with about 80k to 120k miles on the clock.

Possibly with a 2 inch lift on it?

I use a Land Cruiser at the moment to tow a big 4 wheel caravan, doing a lot of European driving, so again LHD is probably better.

Please advise you feelings and ideas on the F250, and which engines were the troublesome ones, and to what degree they were troublesome.

Hope you guys can point me right.

~~Dang, I knew I should have bought the truck instead of the Corvette~~~

Just butting in, having had an F250 diesel double cab, short bed, King Ranch with the 6.0 Powerstroke...

They can, and do, have trouble with the high-pressure fuel pump when they hit 100,000 miles upwards. It'll fail once, go into limp-home mode, then clear itself. This will happen with increasing regularity until they fail completely. At which time you have to lift the body to change the pump.

Having said that, if you're happy to go a little older, there is no finer diesel than the 7.2 Powerstroke which is as tough as old boots, immensely tunable and will go on forever. I'd have one over either of the later versions any day.

The 6.0 Powerstroke can also suffer with turbo problems if it's been/going to be used for short journeys.

They're also not keen on being run on veg oil.

Head problems on the 6.0 - though as I understand it that's a knock-on effect from what Roo mentioned. EGR was meant to be a PITA on them.

Thanks all Ade, Roo, Irok et al,

So where to go?

Do I consider a backward step back to the powerstroke's?

Fuel consumption, disregarding manufactures "cloud" figures, what can I expect.

Oh, believe be, the 'vette was OK, but I definitely should have got the truck, so you did right in getting the truck.
Actually, I was dissapointed with the 'vette, but that might have been because I just sold my last 2002 WS6 TransAm.
The 'vette wasn't really that much faster, or harder in the acceleration dept.

Sorry, so back to the F250.
What to do?
Did they fix the problems with the F250 in later trucks?
How new do I have to go to get a truck that doesn't have these problems, or are Ford still pumping out this same 6.0L diesel?

Apologies for the thread hi-jack here but what 'Vette did you have? It's interesting as I sold my old 2000 SS Camaro last year and was quite chuffed with the performance

The 6.0 was used from 2003 to 2007.

Earlier engines are stronger but a lot more truck like.

The later 6.4, and now 6.7 are very good engines and a lot quieter than the earlier ones.

At the end of the day it's going to be decided by budget more than anything else.
