Maybe looking to change the O.H,s daily hack next year with an Overland version or well specced limited. Was looking at a 3.0CRD. But is the fuel consumption as bad as some make out? What else to look for?

Compared to a Hemi or even the worthless, I mean 4.7L V8 it's better but not dramatically so. . 3.0CRD Grand Cherokees are very rare on this side of the pond but I've had a few. I tend to get 23-24 on the highway, cruising at 70-75 with the cruise control on. That's US MPG so figure 12-15% better UK MPG.

You might as well just bite the bullet and consider a Hemi. The Hemi is only a 3-4 mpg penalty on the open road over a CRD and there's one big difference... The Hemi hauls ass, the CRD doesn't.
