Hi All,

I just bought a 1967 Camaro which I will be shipping back to the UK soon. What is the deal with indicators, my camaro has red tail lights, which are triple function, i.e. work as side, brake and indicators. I dont really want, nor do I know how I would fit orange lenses...

On all the UK cars that I have seen pictures of, they also have red lenses. Am I missing something? I think the cut off for indicators is 1965.... Also, would they expect me to do anything with the headlights?

any advice or recommendations for 'accomodating' Mot stations nr London/south east would be appreciated.
Thanks

Friendly MOT station or Orange bulbs and wired into the reversing lights.

ah ha... thats an interesting one... The reverse lights aren't acually connected to anything since the car was swtiched from auto to manual.

Just need to establish how to Isolate the wiring so that they dont come on with the tail lights and brake lights (I can imagine doing it where I have orange brake lights - dont expect that will go down too well).

thanks

If you can't figure the wiring let me know and I will explain, remeber the brake lights feed through the indicator switch!

Bernie - most of us either convert the reversing lights over with orange bulbs - problem with a 'friendly' mot is that even if it passes is doesn't make it legal. On my '68 Vette the front round year specific .indicators are combined with the sidelight - both white (which isn't legal) I made a series 1 Landrover amber indicator fit - so front indicators are amber and legal - sidelight is now amber too (which isn't legal) - my response will be that the white sidemarkers on the front fenders are visible from the front and it IS legal to have auxillary lights up front in amber (in addition to white). Headlights are l/h dipping with Zenon EU legal bulbs (50% brighter than Halogen and almost as bright as discharge) - rear indicators (as you probably know) on rear of '68 are not in the rear light cluster but small rectangular units under the rear bumpers - orange bulbs here and a very simple wiring job.

Hi guys,

thanks for the feedback. The wiring on my tailights is a little tired so I bought a new set (x4) rear light sockets, they have a black/white and white wire (I think). Seems like wiring the reverse lights is the best solution.

So you are saying its possible to isolate the flashing of the rear lights (required for indicator) from the brake and side light function. That is done from somewhere on the dash? or at the light end?

cheers

Adam - I seem to recall taking a 'live' feed from the brake light switch (at the pedal) to the 'new' rear lights and clipping a wire feeding the original twin filament rear bulbs to disable the original function.
