2500 miles in a Chevy Camaro V6 in 2 weeks :-)
Discussion
Hi,
Just got back from a road trip in the USA (Denver to Grand Canyon and back) and was seriously impressed by how competent the new Camaro was.
I only once got the traction control to kick in (was being seriously silly!). However, I was a bit disappointed by the auto gearbox. There are two basic modes D and M (actually gives a sport auto) but the annoying bit is the way that the tap-shift works. All downshifts took 1-2 seconds to register which meant that sometimes you would downshift too far (from 3rd to 1st) and send the revs to near the limiter.
Also, you can over-ride the D setting with tap shift but if you are then in 2nd or 3rd in a set of switchbacks, it will automatically return to D after a minute or two! This does not happen in M as would be expected. However, it is clever enough to drop down to 1st if you pull up at lights, but will not auto shift up even if you hit the rev limiter. So most time is spent in D unless you know you are about to have fun and maintain full manual control.
However for $23,000 retail (approx £16,000) it knocks spots off anything this side of the pond.
