This is doing my head in! I managed to get my 1999 Camaro Z28 insured with Adrian Flux last year for not much more than the year before, thanks to increasing the excess and dropping the mileage - about £330. This year they've just sent me a renewal notice - £421!! That's with the same £500 excess and 3k limit on miles as last year.

Has every one else seen their premiums rising again? Are there any decent places worth ringing around for alternatives or has everyone gone up?

I can scarcely believe it but I followed some google links and went onto moneysupermaket - Admiral (apparently!) can offer me insurance for less than half what Adrian Flux can offer. 11 others all come in far cheaper. Somehow I doubt I'll be renewing with AF (unless these quotes are just designed to reel you in for the real quote...)

yup - I agree my experince with adrian flux is that the last name nearly describes what they do to you in terms of insurance frown

Wouldn't touch with a barge-pole!

And the cheeky sods have emailed to say "don't worry, we'll renew you automatically, you don't need to get in touch"! Yes I bloody do and if you debit my CC after being told not to...

Try Classic Line. That's what I pay for my modified 460hp 2005 Mustang. Can't promise they'll be cheaper and as you will have seen, fraudulent whiplash claims have to be paid by us mugs.

AF are not that bad. I've used them several times and have had a claim with them. All insurers are the same including Admiral, if your an existing customer your a cash cow to be fleeced come renewal.

Just get used to finding cheaper elsewhere and getting them to match it or leave.

Classic Line aren't like that. Not only do you not need your NCB because it's a classic policy but this year they wrote and said my existing insurer was ditching Mustangs so had found a new insurer. The price was about the same (£431) and it comes with free legal expenses insurance and free breakdown recovery (Home Start another £10). A-Plan requoted me at my request this year after losing my custom last year but were £40 more without the freebies. Classic Line will also do an agreed value for £20. It's the complete service really and the renewal comes through several weeks before renewal, not the several days most companies seem to use to cut down your search time (I got a pro-forma from A-Plan inviting quotation yesterday when the renewal is 8/7).

My history with AF is that every time I have sought a quote, we get in an argument about stupid Thatcham alarms and why I'm not hacking my wiring for an inferior alarm. However, their rates have never been very attractive for me so it's never been any great loss.

Does anyone know the thing about NCD? Mine is a full 19 years, ever since I learned to drive, but the Camaro isn't my daily driver and my NCB (I assume) is against my daily, the Accord. If the Camaro is a second car, presumably the no claims is immaterial - it only counts against the regular drive? Or is it just as relevant for the second car?

You can only use your NCB once on one car. However, classic policies don't use nor earn NCB and most companies requiring NCB will "mirror" your existing NCB so it's rarely an issue unless you've got accidents and convictions.

Thanks. I thought you could only use it on 1. Did wonder why they were asking when it was marked as a second car. Cheers.

Another vote for Classicline... only company that would cover me with all mods on a classic policy and a few trackdays too... !

AF wanted silly money as usual, along with most of the other usual brokers..

Quick update... The NCD thing played a part and the cheapest quotes I was then getting offered were around the £338 and up mark. Aviva could offer less if I went on my wife's multi car policy but they would want proof of 4 years no claims built up during my ownership (which would involve getting letters from 3 insurers in that time). And frankly, Aviva seem to be numpties in their call centre. Seriously making me think I would never use them in future...

Rang AF back and got a far better quote from them - down to £320 with the £500 excess covered so I get it back in the event of a claim. Which is less than I paid last year. No brainer really. Just goes to show...not that anyone on here probably needs reminding...ALWAYS ring around and never accept your renewal quote!
