you'll be lucky - get yourself off to Americana at the Newark showground (I think) it'll be your best bet

No but it has other iterations in the near identical Chrysler LHS and the Chrysler Concorde, Dodge Intrepid, and Eagle Vision.

LHS at a push, although I think the appeal of the bench seats in the New Yorker appeal more, as does the two tone paint. Not so fussed about the others and despite being the same platform they share no sheet metal.

Have you had a proper drive in one?. I completely understand the appeal of a big floaty American car, but that breed seemed to have something lacking. Just never felt as "right" as the Town Car/Crown Vic/Grand Marquis or Caprice.

Nope not driven one. We had one as a rental many years ago (1995), but I was only 15, so only rode in it. If I was to buy a vehicle like this, big and bargy is exactly what I'd be after. The time previous in the States we did actually have a Towncar, wonderful thing, but over here rare and when I have seen them they are £4-6k, which I think is quite a lot of money for what they are. Caprice would be ok, but I only like the look of the 80's square shape ones, not the "aero" ones. Crown Vic is cool, but they suck mpg wise, even by American standards.

The correct nomenclature for the Caprice models is "Box" and "Bubble", don't sound like a tourist. hehe

I would be surprised if the Chrysler models gave notably better fuel economy so I wouldn't use that as a determining factor. If you just like the way they look then that is all that matters, you wouldn't be buying anything in that class for driving dynamics anyway and they will all be comfortable.

In true PH style suggesting something completely different to what you want. The LS400 I had for a while was the closest to big American land yacht motoring I have found over here and as you are well aware can be bought for next to nothing.

biggrin

There is a similar era brown Crown Vic on eBay at the mo... just not quite sure.

I've only browsed fuelly and that seems to suggest 25-28mpg for the 215hp V6 New Yorker/LHS. I can't see the Ford 4.6 getting anywhere near that and not in a Crown Vic with slush box. That said there is a 98 Crown Vic on ebay too. But I really detest the colour and the interior isn't as nice. I think if I had one of these I'd want it looking more 'bad ass' as it were, with no chrome and in black or yellow.

EDIT: Bit of a mix mpg wise, but 14-23 seems more likely for the big Crown Vic, which in percentage terms is enough.

Yep that'd be it really. Although watching the Motor Week review on YouTube it really doesn't look that bad and I don't recall it being an a bad car back in 95.

Yeah I've looked at these in the past. I think I'd like something a little more flamboyant though. I've just sold my Cherokee and looking to buy something else, either a luxo barge, a sporty coupe or a Series Land Rover. Can't quite decide. Only real stipulation is it needs to be more frugal than the Jeep was, I know I didn't do many miles in it, but 14-16mpg doesn't half hit the wallet, even just to go for a cruise round the lanes/block.

I had a 2001 Crown Vic that regulalrly did high teens MPG as a daily driver.

It was on LPG as well which made it even better.

Not in the UK, no - sorry. However the question remains - why in God's name would you want to know? - unless you are planning on scaring young children with it. Chrysler haven't had many resounding successes in recent years - this must go down as one of Bob Lutz's biggest faux pas.
'Woeful' would be a complement.

There are a few reasons.

-I actually don't mind/quite like the styling. Inside and out. And even more so in the UK where such styling is not the norm. Equally I like other US make cars of similar styling and shape, including the square boxy styling of the late 70's thru 80's.

-for such an ownership prospect speed and handling are not concerns. In fact the more bargy the better. Although I don't recall the rental we had being that bad, very comfy and practical. The online reviews I've watched also don't seem to show the car up badly either

-I've have found memories of riding in one. So it's partly nostalgia.

-a six seater and huge boot really appeals, something a Jag or BMW cannot offer.

-price. I'm not looking to spent a mint. And suspect such a car if I find one would be well within budget.

-it isn't boring. Not in the UK.

That is the car I would be shooting for over the Chrysler. My Aunt had one (well in Grand Marquis guise) which I drove extensively and it really wasn't a bad car at all. Only issue I can recall were leaking rear airbags, but conversions to proper springs are commonplace and the car didn't seem any worse for it. Couldn't tell you anything about MPG as I never paid attention to it. Petrol prices were cheap enough at the time so it was a non-issue.

Agree with you on the black, yellow would be too taxi. If I had a Crown Vic/Grand M, I would be looking to convert it into "Marauder" spec if only in appearance. I saw one at a car show when I was still living there and it had me looking for ex police cars to buy on the cheap to convert.

That's a shame, just had a closer look. Reckon Chrysler must have sold these in Europe rather than them being imports. One of them says LHS on the side and the pics of the others aren't good enough to see what they says, but it looks like "Chrysler" rather than "New Yorker". They also seem to have km/h clocks not mph and they have the LHS floor mounted shifter and bucket seats rather than the column shifter and bench seat the New Yorker should have, which for me would be two key things I want and part of the point of owning such a car frown
