Importing from EU to UK - Advice needed
Discussion
Hi,
I've found the 'car' I want in the EU. However, I've never imported anything before and I was wondering if anyone else had brought a Hummer here from elsewhere.
It's a '98 H1.
What modifications does it need?
What docs do I need?
Tests?
Insurance companies that are favourable to imports/Hummers?
I've looked on the DVLA website but that's clear as mud! I need an idiots guide!
Any help would be great. Are there any H1 owners on PH?
Best regards,
Col.

Mods: RHD conversion for the headlights. Orange rear indicators if not present. If it's been registered in Germany, it should have them already.I've found the 'car' I want in the EU. You'll have to apply for a V55/4 or V55/5 (most likely the second one, as I believe the /4 is for new, unregistered vehicles).
Thanx chaps.
It has it's TUV certs as it's currently in Germany, so basically, I just need to change the front lights. The DVLA have finally got back to me so I'll look into the insurance and documentation now. The plan is to drive it back through Germany/Netherlands and ferry from Hook of Holland.

The DVLA will want to see a Certificate of Conformity that you should be able to get from the U.K. Importers and if that doesn't have enough details for the DVLA such as reading MPH and that the headlights have been changed there is another form that you can download from the internet for free for the VCA which will cost you another £70 for the cert but they will reply with the certificate withn 3 or 4 days
