Hi All,
In the not too distant future I will be looking at changing my daily drive from my current Suzuki Alto. Because of this I have started looking around at various different cars however as is the case for most young drivers, insurance gets in the way.
I have always fancied an american car ever since I was about 8-9 and was wondering if any young folk have them and if so what do you have and how much is insurance. The car would be a second car as I would have another car from work to commute in.
As for what I want, I am open to suggestion, I have no specific needs for the car however I have always hankered after a V8 although I can see this being a problem with insurance. I have looked at everything from 40's pickups to 4th gen Camaros. Basically, it just has to be different to the usual and make me smile.
Thanks in anticipation.

Insurance will be the biggest issue. It wasn't all that long ago that it was relatively cheap and easy for under 25s to get insured on American vehicles (in my experience anyway) but over the past couple of years prices have gone up and many insurers have raised their age limits.
To give you an idea, my renewal is due and I’m being quoted around £600 for my 1992 5.7 V8 Camaro. I’m 27 with no claims, no convictions and the car is on a limited mileage policy and kept in a garage. I had to leave my previous insurer because they put their age limit up to 30.
As LuS1fer said you might be better of starting small and working your way up. The alternative to the Fox body Mustang is the V6 camaro in either 3rd or 4th gen guise. They won’t be particularly quick but they’ll definitely stand out from the crowd. I'd just browse the 'American' section of eBay motors and see what's around.
