Hi All,

I have owned a car in Florida for a few years now and am looking at bringing it back to the UK. As I have owned it over 6 months as I understand it you wouldn't need to pay the duty on it. Is this correct?

Also as the title hasn't been in my name would that then mean I would have to pay duty etc on it even if I could provide original invoice with my name on?

Cheers
Liam

I looked at this recently when importing my truck, i think you need to have lived in America for either 6 or 12 months and owned the car for that time, that means your name on the title i would think.

Hi Andy,

I have been reading more about it today and as you say you have to be able to prove you lived there as well for at least 6 months. The car has been for sale for a few months now with no serious interest so thought I would bring it here. Because of the value of it, the duty and the VAT means it would probably be best to sell it at a stupidly low price rather than bring it over.
