As title really, I've been a fan of American cars for years but I really want to go to a show this summer, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good show if I could only go to one? I'm in Essex so nothing north of Birmingham would be ideal.

The MOPAR show at Santa Pod caught my eye, would that be good? Preferably wanting some track action or at least be able to hear those engines smile

My other half has developed a love of 60's Mustangs too and she's dying for a passenger ride which I here might be a possibility at the Pod.

Yep, the Mopar Euronational at the Pod's a good do. Sunday has a show'n'shine, burn out and wheelie competitions as well as all the usual RWYB. Also the Jetcar puts in a run if you like being deafened. Your wife would have to charm her way into a passenger ride and also has to pay the same fee for a wrist band as a driver! About £25 IIRC. I'd volunteer my services, but a: I already know how slow my car is, and b: it's a 70's Camaro not a 60's 'Stang.

Slighty further away for you, is Gary's Picnic at Shakespeare County Raceway at the end of May. Less maybe for the casual spectator to see but I prefer it's slightly 'rustic' charm. smile

Camping for either is free with a weekend ticket.

Thanks for the reply, looks like I'll be booking a ticket to the Euronationals then! I can't wait to see the American car drifting too, sounds good.

I just looked at your garage - that Camaro is beyond awesome and surely not slow! How much power?

passenger rides on track at the pod arent allowed, you'd have to see if someone would take her out onto the surrounding roads

they generally have a cruise through the villages at the mopar nats after the racing has finished

Santa Pod has turned the track day market on its head, by being the first venue in the UK to allow guests to drive under fully timed race conditions – with a passenger!

In a dynamic change to their rules and regulations, the ‘Pod has made it possible for any enthusiast enjoying a day’s full-tilt driving (at £35 all in) to take a passenger alongside, under race conditions, for only a £10 sign-on fee!

Passengers will need to bring their full UK driving licence and sign on in the usual manner, but having done so - and once presented with their wristband, they are free to ride shotgun with anybody on the start line that would like them onboard. With events running throughout the year there are over 50 separate opportunities for a bit of twos-up, heads-up racing! Any road legal car is eligible, but understandably, real race car drivers, bikers and anyone running faster than 130mph will have to travel solo!

Upon announcing the move, Santa Pod MD, David Lloyd Jones was quick to point out the many benefits. "We’re proud to have added this new dimension to our RWYB days,’ he said. ‘By allowing passengers, it not only makes it a far more enjoyable day for groups of friends attending, but also opens the door for any tuners or commercial organisations to come along and showcase their wares to prospective customers. This fundamental change in our running regulations also means we can offer ‘experience’ rides to allow newcomers to the sport to discover the thrill of the quarter mile, for the price of a round of drinks."

Although each run is limited to one passenger per car, there is no limit to the amount of guests accompanying each car, so if you’re looking to sell, to impress, to entertain – or even for a first date with a difference, why not try the new RWYB for two?

Good stuff so a tenner gets a passenger ride in as many willing volunteers cars as we can find! Well done Santa pod too.

If it's track action with muscle cars then you can't beat the MOPAR's, also Gary's Picnic, if you want a mix of nostalgia, rods and muscle cars then check out Dragstalgia at Santa Pod.

If static shows are your thing then there's the AAC...something which it at Billing Aquadrome this weekend which is normally a huge show.

Just spent some time trying to find out about the Billing Spring Nats, not sure why they decided to make the worst website ever to advertise the event! Very little info about exactly what the show is. Sunday weather looks ok if chilly, might make the trek up. £10 a car is cheap too.

It's basically a static car show, there may well be a few bands on and a load of American lifestyle/interest stands, if the weather is good then can be a monster turnouts of cars 1930's to present.
