I have got a f150 4.6 1997 and need to change the antifreeze, any recommendations on what antifreeze to use? Also how many litres of antifreeze do i need? Can i just drain the fluid from the drain plug of the radiator and fill from the expansion tank? Also my drivebelt is making a bit of a noise so i think i should change it, can i just loosen the tensioner and swap the belts over or do i have to take anything off?

Hi
If you have a costco near you they do prestone yellow antifreeze.
Seems great,it is the more modern extended life type.comes in 4 ltrs, probably gonna need 3, capacity is aprox 20 ltrs.

Yeah drain from the rad,not sure if there are drain plugs on the engine but would be good to get
as much of the old stuff out as poss.

Drive belt should come off when you slacken the tentioner,i think i used a 1/2" drive breaker bar,
like the square fits in the tentioner.

Yeah as far as i can remember,i have a lightning which is slightly different
might be a bit of a tinker with the shroud in the way but should be ok.

Have you got a sticker on the front panel showing belt route,if not try and take a pic, looks obvious
when its on,take it off and then it can be a bit confusing.
cheers.

Any quality green will do.

The belt noise may be the tentioner going bad. New belt will tell.

CHECK that all pulleys(tensioners) spin free while belt is off for replacement.I would like to have $5.00 (3quid) for every fool that I know who has put a new belt on and then had to buy another belt and pulley because the bearings in the back of the pulley were bad. On my 3 diesel Chev trucks, with a new belt or about 150,000KM 2 new pulleys (1 is tensioner) are replaced with GM parts. (aftermarket pulley bearings only last me a max of 50,000KM) Also check to see if your belt rides against 1 or 2 pulleys.........Most people only worry about the main pulley which is the tensioner.
