hey guys n gals, im hoping to buy an american car next year (probably a late 80's to mid 90's camaro of the v8 variety....) i was just wondering what sort of insurance quotes to expect?
im currently 27, will be 28 by then, i have a company car so i will only use the camaro as a weekend toy 3000 miles max, garaged etc.
only problem is i have 0 no claims as some pillock dented my door last year which wiped al of mine out, and since its company insurance i cant recoup any no claims in the coming years!
anyway if anyone could recommend companies, any ways of getting the quotes down (car clubs, excess, 3rd party or fully comp??) and roughly what i would expect to pay id appreciate it!!
cheers in advance!

Funny you say that. I just bought a 1991 Camaro Z28. Its the 5.7 L V8.
Im 30, live in a good post code, the policy has no noclaims on it as its my 4th car.
£280 for the year with a 3000 mile policy from Henderson Taylor. I was shocked at how cheap it was!!
To put that in context, im paying £680ish for my Elise.

well i just answered my own question, gave adrian flux a ring just out of interest, the best quote they gave me was through equity redstar.....all the above details, 3000 miles a year, fully comp with all the bells and wistles £396!!!!!...to put that in perspective, last year my corsa insurance was 650!!!!!!

If you are 27 and still need your parents approval to buy things, something is a bit wrong PaulB81 said:

Henderson Taylor are cheap and the service excellent, but they no longer insure drivers under 30. I insured my first Camaro with them at 23 for £215 but had to find insurance elsewhere when they put their age limit up. I'm now paying nearly triple that at 27 with 5 year of experience and no claims, work that one out. Edited by PaulB81 on Tuesday 28th February 14:15
OP: Try A-Plan or Frank Pickles.

Can anyone explain to me why the insurance is low for these cars?
I dare say a big part is because they're often driven by people who look after them and don't engage in too much boy-racer like behaviour [or understand there's a time and place perhaps? ]. If the insurance companies have found over time that they haven't had to pay out often for thefts or repairs, etc, then they can afford to be reasonable with their premiums. The fact most people often have them on limited-mileage policies also reduces the risks. £415 for my 97 V8 Camaro this year with Adrian Flux. Thats on a 2000 mile policy though. I'm 27 and my wife who's 26 is also on the policy. Only SDP ex commuting.
If your over 30 you can get really cheap insurance. Couple of guys on the UK Camaro forum posted that they were getting £200 - £250 with companies like A-Plan.
