Hi all,

I moving from Germany to England, to get my RAM imported I needed to get a import TUV test which is a Ger equivalent to a MOT. A few questions if I may.

What do I need to get it registered DVLA?

Also whats the road tax like + details ie PLG etc?

Where/who do I get car ins through?

Of course I need to get a LPG conversion and I also need a spray in bedliner and perhaps a topper/box/countryman to go on the flatbed as I've only got a tonneau at the moment.

Thanks so much in advance I'm a little nervous as I've not lived in the UK for almost 6 yrs now! But can't wait!

Why do you need a TUV to import it to a country that doesn't recognise it?

You can get the car IVA tested in the UK and I seem to recall the rules are fairly lax for commercial vehicles. I'm fairly sure you'd have to IVA it anyway.

It will need a UK light conversion and IVA test. The German TUV test means nothing here.

Road tax will be £205 a year and insurance is available from specialist brokers by using Google for ideas.

Roo,
What are the rules with commercials as I've seen a lot of UK registered Rams without side repeaters or orange rear indicators.

Both of my pick ups that I imported had the old SVA. The lights are/were not part of the checks for PLG.

If you imported one less than 3 years old, i.e. not needing an MOT as well, You could SVA, register and tax and be on the road.

Doesn't make it legal though and VOSA would not be impressed if you got a roadside tug.

A lot of the later trucks also have the side repeaters built into the door mirror housings.

Good news is that currently I'm paying 1200 euro for my car insurance, Adrian Flux just quoted me £575!

It's quite hard as I have 6 yrs German no claims, which many companies won't acknowledge, but they said once I've served one year with them my no claims would then become UK no claims...

My car dealer who's English seemed to think that I could get away with anymore conversions because the indicators wrap round to the side of the truck

Anyone know of a decent gas conversion place in the Dorset/Swindon/Bristol area?

Thanks for the advice

Thats a wide area. Where are you going to be living? I am in Swindon.
I am picking up my Ram this week, yay!
I think there is an LPG place neare Poole in Dorset. I had looked at getting mine done at a place in Milton Keynes.

Sorry for the slow reply. I don't know what the place in Dorset charge but I had a quote of about £2300 from one in Milton Keynes for a Prinns kit

Thanks for the reply 2300!!!

I was thinking more along the lines of £1500-£1800 Max and I'm sure I had a quote for one for around the £1000 mark about a year ago.

One more question if I may, I have the SAT CD/Radio, is there anyway of getting this converted so I can listen to DAB/SAT in the UK rather than just in the 52 state region?

Also anyone know of a decent reasonable gas converter between Swindon, Bristol, Reading, Oxford, Bournemouth.....

No idea about the radio. As I said the £2300 quote was for a top end Prins LPG system. I think it could be had for nearer £1500 for a more basic system.
I just know Prins as a good brand and they offer a good warranty so was interested in that.
