Hiring modern muscle in San Fran...

OK so planning an epic road trip end August - San Fran, LA, Vegas and looking at either a Corvette, Mustang or Challenger.

Which one should i take and where to hire from. do they only do standard models or can you get z06's, GT500's or SRT8 versions.

Avis and Hertz both have 'fun' collections where you can choose specific vehicles. I've used Avis the last 3 years to hire Camaro's, both the V6 and the SS versions and its worked well so far. One point I would note is that some of the vehicles include insurance in the price and some don't which meant for me that the Camaro SS was half the price of a Challenger even though they initially looked the same price. Also the 'Vette has seemed to only be available with a mileage limit although that may not be the case any more as its a 9 months or so since I last did it.

Very envious of your trip, I've done some of that and its fantastic - also don't hire a sat nav, buy your own here which can take extra maps and get the US mapping added to it (or buy one which already has it). Use it here before you leave so you don't spend the first hour of your holiday shouting at the crap unit they will give you :-)

If you are using a mainstream rental company, your choices will be limited (?) to Camaro 2SS (Hertz and Avis) Charger/Challenger RT (Hertz, Avis, National and Budget) and Corvette Z51 (paddle) (Hertz and Avis).

I have a Hertz Vette booked for late Feb pick up from SFO to do a similar trip.

Booked online through Hertz UK includes unlimited miles and all insurances.

Look at the PH American Dreams thread - they use Hertz.

Hertz have a sale on at the moment....
