Guys, I posted about this topic before in relation to my 66 Dodge Polara, but thanks to finding the 'right' MOT station it passed okay with red indicators. But, I'm now thinking of importing a '79 Cadillac Sedan Deville and there's no way I'll get away with it on that one.

Does anyone have any experience of doing the conversion on one of these 70's Cadillacs....is it a simple rewiring job and then using some amber bulbs or more involved than that? I know the stock setup uses dual filament bulbs....one lights up when the lights are switched on and the other lights up for braking and indicating.

Usually the 'neatest' option is to re-wire the indicator feed into the reversing lamps and use an orange bulb [I did this on my 1992 Buick Roadmaster Station Wagon], but this isn't practical with the Caddy as the reversing lamps sit too far inboard [either side of the number plate] to be legal.

My 1979 Cutlass Supreme has two high level brake lamps positioned in each lower corner of the rear window, running a home-made clear lens and amber bulbs, and running the indicators feed to them [this was 'installed' by a previous owner, and has passed many MOTs this way.] I hate it and will probably revert to the combined tail/brake/indicator function with the red lens, and take my chances.

One popular option is to use small chrome housing motorcycle indicators, and mount them somewhere reasonable discreet along the underside of the rear bumper.
