Hello, I've searched but not found a definitive answer so maybe somebody here can help please.

I have a 1992 Corvette, imported by me, currently unregistered here in the UK,
I want to register it here, can anybody explain to me what exactly I need to do?
Do I need an iva/biva/sva/esva ?? or is an MOT test enough? ( after sorting the lights )

if I have the following when I go to to the dvla office will it be enough:

original title from usa
import duty paid receipt.
current mot cert.
current insurance cert.
completed v55/4 form

I have looked at the dvla site and others but they are not really specific on usa imports.

thanks smile

Have you spoken directly with the DVLA?

I would imagine they have the definitive answers to your questions.

It is over 10 years old so all you need is an MOT (still needs orange rear indicators, white sidelights and rear figlight and illuminated switch).

For the rough outline, see here:
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/627465/2002-chevrole...

For registration:
1. Identification - Passport or DL
2. V55/5 Form available from the DVLA Local Office
3. Registration Fee
4. VEL Duty - it's something like £205 for 12m
5. Certificate Of Insurance (on the VIN Number)
6. Form C386 which is the form you get from HM Customs & Excise showing you've paid the duty. Make sure you get this when you pick your car up from the Docks or from HMCE. Can't register without it.
7. MOT Certificate
8. Evidence of age of vehicle ie the US Certificate Of Title (their equivalent of our log book). Remember the American date format is mm/dd/yy

TIP It's well worth spending a little time filling in the V55 yourself and stressing the date of registration to the people processing it. Mine went through just fine and I got my 02 date of registration. My friend submitted his application for his 03 and ended up with a "52" plate and then got a load of woffle about proof of registration blah blah blah and it's a common issue. Insist on the correct plate for the date of registration.

You could buy a pre-92 private DVLA plate, in advance, to save time on getting US size plates. Only when registered will you otherwise be allocated a plate which you then have to get made up before you can use the car. If you don't know your number plate until you register, it's an additional delay.

i too have just imported a vehicle, it's a gmc syclone truck, does anyone know what you do without a cirtificate of conformity when you have to fill in the details on the v55/5 relating to weight, dimensions etc etc? will dvla deal with this or is it for me to sort?

Is it over 10 years old and exempt from the SVA (or whatever the latest version is called)? If so then you don't need to complete all those details. However, if it isn't that old then it must go through an SVA test before it is registered and I believe that is where the Certificate of Conformity comes from.

Read the questions carefully. If you click the LHD box, you generally don't need to answer half the questions. There is no Certificate of Conformity because it doesn't conform and that's why you had SVA/IVA single vehicle test for cars under 10 years old.

thanks, it's 1991 so doesn't need sva not sure about iva? also my original title document has no manufacture date and no engine number either, i found a date on the sticker in the door stating 02/91 so thats a rough date but as for the engine number i can't see a thing under the bonnet it's too cluttered.

IVA replaced SVA. yours won't need one, just an MOT.

Engine and chassis numbers are the same or at least the numeral part of the VIN is the engine number too.

They don't use engine numbers on mass produced cars so don't worry about it.
