Johannes you have got to let the weirdness with the Hamster go. You are clearly a passionate and knowledgeable muscle car enthusiast whom from your posts are currently housebound. Unless you are a hostage I assume this is due to I’ll health so I wish you well.

I love all your pictures and the information you share but sometimes one has to accept the reality that if you cannot afford to pay someone or restore a car yourself it is better to let it go to its next owner.

PS Drop all the Lol and Doh crap it’s really jarring.

Irrespective of Hamster/Smallest Cog etc would a thinking person be happy trusting your Mopar to a bunch of guys who havn't any previous history working on this marque?

Absolutely not, having been caught out with something similar.

I do have a passion for old American Muscle, amongst other cars, and love some of the cars featured in this thread.

I love old American muscle and kick myself as I remember seeing, quite often, something interesting with a for sale sign just sitting in a London street, early 80s, for not a lot of money.

Will do Mike! (lol).

I am more than capable of building my 69 Charger 500 myself.
But what will I get out of it?

A massive pat on the back from myself and yet another failed marriage...
I like many others have lost wives, families, houses, cars due to a misguided passion!

Yes all of the above for me and I still carry on with the 'Mopar madness'...
I could write a novel about the pitfalls of resto and American Muscle cars but who would read it?

So with much heartache I will be selling my C500 to the highest bidder asap...
Then the headaches will be yours and not mine (DOH) can't stop myself...

Maybe the problem is worse than I thought?

The whole restoration malarky is completely subjective,
First off “what constitutes a restoration “ ??
So if that’s a given a full strip down, Dip/blast whatever
And then carry out any required repairs should be capable by any team with body/mechanical skill,
The simpler the car the simpler the restoration
However don’t confuse simple with cheaper
An hours labour cost the same on a Morris Minor as an Aston Martin !

The whole Marque specialist is really for very high end vehicles, but there’s something to be said for good inside knowledge, just makes repairs a bit easier,

As for the Hammond stuff , it’s just tele make believe,

No wait a minute?

If the hamster can get a contract to restore cars with absolutely no knowledge AT ALL!

Then a lifetime restorer of Mopar Muscle can just maybe get a contract too...

Stuff the hamster and his Money PIT garage, I'm gonna do this for ALL Mopar NUTs of Eurolands myself...

If you see no replies for a year or two I'm either dead or a total failure (no change there then)?

Does this pic get your juices flowing?

If not then resto isn't for you either...

This picture is of another Charger 500 currently under full resto here in the UK.
Yep they are still 'doing it' even after the Covids, war and yet to come NUKES...

Sorry Newsatten, you wanted a reply?

What is a restoration...

The turning back of the clock to 1968/9 for a Charger 500 and the car leaving 'Creative Industries' to go to the excited NEW owner!
Why would that be special?

Because you own one of the 392 Charger 500's, a 4-speed manual dana 60 one of only 26 ever made for Nascar homologation...

No I can't go back and be that person, but hopefully with a fair wind and a big budget I can do it again 50 years laters!

So how good does it have to be?

Good enough to 'warrant me' buying it in the first place.

Yes it won't be 100% original even survivor cars have service parts and stuff.
But a fair recreation of the original car as best as humanly possible during a world crisis is fine by me...

Eugene did with the help of Nick's garage!
He did it twice, once in 1969 and then again in 2020...

Eugene seems happy even though he painted it dark red 'back in day' I wonder WHY?

They were hooning the C500 around and I said ''watch out for trains''!

It didn't go down very well with Eugene or his followers at all...

Oh well, just my sick sense of humour...

Thing is........with any supposed 'classic' the car only means something to those who are 'lucky' enough (perhaps unfortunate enough) to own the vehicle.......or yearned after something for many years after perhaps seeing something either when nearly new, at a show or on the screen. Yes, you'll get admiration for the car from 'supposed' enthusiasts and general members of the public...........but do any of them really know what the vehicle actually is? - for example take a 65/66 Mustang. People seem to spend silly amounts of money buying an 'base' model 2bbl coupe. Nice car but you could stick any engine under the hood, not open it and most people would be unaware and as long as the car had a good coat of paint they would faun over it.......but it ain't exactly a rare car is it? - take a really early production 64 1/2 and most people would be non the wiser. Take the example of the 71' Mustang I owned many years back. It was in Mach 1 trim, had dog dish wheel trims.........it could have had a 302 under the hood - (it didn't it was one of 500 or so 429 SCJ's Drag Pack cars) - it didn't make it desirable to 99% of onlookers - to them it was just another 71' Mach 1 'breadvan' and they'd rather have seen an earlier car. The whole 'classic car' scene is overcooked - too many chancers and speculators trying to make money out of those perhaps passionate (or stupid) enough to lay out good money for barely average cars.

Had a Highland greem notchback Mustang and to most of joe public it was a Bullitt , even after walking around the rear of the car,

With the Mustang chrome horse emblem in the grille especially on 64/66 cars i even had them mistaken for a Ferrari by a few,

surppose not so bad having your Ford mistaken for a Ferrari than your Ferrari mistaken for a Ford rolleyes

Nice one Rosco!

I am/was a Ford guy back in the day.
Some Moparmates are Ford fanatics too.

I have enough problem with learning about Mopar to touch anything else?
I've received many comments about my 69 Charger 500...

''That's just a trim option, no big deal.''
''What plonker fitted a 1968 Coronet grille in a 69 Charger''?
''No one has ever heard of them even Mopar guys''...

There was a time the Daytona's and Superbirds 'didn't sell' and were converted back to Roadrunners etc.!
Not really my problem if car folks are 'none the wiser'...

I know what a 69 Charger 500 is and what Nascar is too.

Any Muscle car looks good in green!

I was 'chewing the fat'' with my other Charger 500 mate.

I said ''the C500 is an unknown quantity here in the UK and its mostly forgotten''.

So I am gonna convert mine to a Daytona, like it was back in the 90's!

His chin dropped and he spluttered out ''are you mad''?

''Yes, but so are most people in the 21st century''...

Maybe go F5 then they would really see me coming?

His Charger 500 was F5 but he thought it was TOO bright to live with, sad...

Don't think it would too hard for him to go back to F5?

Its an F8 variant green now, mixed by the paintshop.

So we are back to colour and car options as always, what is right and what is wrong?

If my memory serves me well, this Charger was 560 hours @ £30 an hour...for body and paint...

Most folks would say ''who cares'' I DO!

Lethal things (the 429's) - produced in fewer numbers than even the Boss 429's.

OP only you can decide what to do and how far to go. I had my 67 Vitesse bare metal repainted, didn’t touch my XK140 FHC as it was a nice scabby old thing and my 61 GMC Apache was a bitsa anyway so just enjoyed it.
3 was a bit much to care for.

From a punters perspective... it strikes me that £30/ph for 560 hours is very good value, I'm actually surprised it's that 'cheap'

Hi Mike,

Saw your truck for sale a while back, Coolio!
Perfect colour and suits her well.

I have this conversation many times with 'car collectors'.
How many is too many?

One perfect car or a fleet of 'OK' cars...
Yes some folks have a fleet of perfect cars and I have been in that world.

Not as an owner but as a polisher come dogsbody (lol).
Would I want to be that person?

No not really, because as a kid I went to Sunday school and learnt the Bible.
Less is more and treat others how you want to be treated yourself!

Car greed is an 'unnecessary evil' like many others...
