Only in London, wouldn't see any classic's left parked in the street in any of the big towns around here,

Hope the owner has modern security fitted,

When cruising around Mayfair and Chelsea area some years ago i was staggered just how many high end classics with residents parking permits

on their windscreens were parked overnight in the road, Aston DB 5's ,50's Bentley R Types Continentals Mulliner fastbacks , 60's Ferrari's

just left on street corners , Not sure if that's all changed now as haven't been up to the smoke since the last Chelsea cruise probably some 10

years ago

Fake.

No real Shelby owner would put those wheels on a real one, or re-paint their car in a non-original colour (not these days with what they are worth)

'Thrashing' a 'Tranny' surely must be a criminal officence (or is that only in an 'alternative' world........)

Haha
I actually thought Leigh would chime in on that one !
lol
And yeah I get the wheels are a tad off piste but these days would that matter to a footballer or a tweed ??
The car that’s on the bay of lies at 75k has moody wheels
Full cage etc ,

Ok obviously a clone blah blah but these days the lines are blurred, it’s not aficionados it’s money!

My cars a a clone of a 1969 COPO, and has mods. I really don't get the fuss over this stuff. In my mind, we're a broad church, we enthusiasts! smile

Exactly my point, it’s blurry now, 100 point cars are for a different breed,
There all old bangers and we’re keeping the dream alive
My car has spent over 40 years hiding away,
But it will live again, as for matching numbers and being original yeah it’s ok for bragging rights but in reality it’s means nowt,
Can’t wait to get on with the TA , I’m 68 in September so that bloody clock is well ticking!

There are still monied aficionados about, and those are the ones buying the matching numbers/restored 'investment' cars. Sure, there are still plenty of people with money buying expensive Eleanor clones for 150k+, but the people buying those won't be buying a real Shelby.

As for cars being nicked, there was a well known white 69/70 Shelby GT350 that used to be parked on the road for over 25 years in West London by its owner. I used pass it often parked up, and it was never a mint car, and as the years progressed it did get ever rougher around the edges, but it was a real one, and was no doubt, looked after mechanically......and about 4/5 years ago, a mate and fellow yank owner who lived not far away told me that he'd seen a local Facebook group post saying that it had been stolen and anyone with info to contact Acton Police station.

Harry's COPO clone is the best way of owning such a beast, all the fun of a real COPO that can be used (and abused) without the worry about investment value or anything like that beer

I remember seeing that around quite often and as you described.......and then I didn't see it ( but saw the post about it being nicked.
Wonder what the end of the story is?

Remember taking my Shelby clone to a Super Car track day at Goodwood, to my surprise i got a warm welcome with lots of interest

from everyone parked in the pits with a sea of modern Lambo's and Ferrari's ,even being invited to take it on the track despite not being booked in,

This was until i mentioned it was a Shelby clone ,Being a almost exact clone and painted Wimbledon white with Guardsman blue stripes i think they

must assumed it was the real deal ,after that no one spoke to me in fact two guys cut off the conversation and just walked off,

Obviously these owners were wealthy enough to afford the real thing and considered me as a imposter.,

Another guy said ,so it's a replica Mustang is it,i said no it's a real Mustang but a replica Shelby , he went off looking confused,

Never had that problem anywhere else ,i surpose a lesson on how to go from hero to zero in a very short time,

Perhaps I should take the aftermarket wheels off my Vette - replace with stock wheels and period red line tyres and start calling it an L88 replica?......it's more powerful than the supposed 'real' thing.......

That’s just terrible!
Do people actually behave in that manner!
Good grief we’re not talking MR2 being converted to a 250LM are we !

I can’t believe these pricks are car guys, just money knobs,

Unless your Fastback rolled off the production line a notch back it was as genuine as any other genuine Ford,
Which is another way of saying it was just as crap as all the other pooh Ford made!
Cheap disposable motors for the masses,
GM the same blah blah,
A tick in a box, another 300 bucks and bingo, super car status!
Well actually no not really just a bit quicker than the majority of similar cars,
As I’ve said multiple times these are rubbish thrown together machines and the utter BS surrounding them is mind boggling!

But, its no different to anything old that becomes "collectable", like old watches, old furniture, old firearms even wink.....once the investors get involved.

I mean, some utter lunatics pay multiple millions for some old painting that looks like it was done by a 6 year in sunday school, because, art innit mate.

Sadly, old cars have also fallen prey to this inevitable situation.

This is why I joined the Porsche owners club for just one year, many years ago, as the snobbery about my lowly 968 was unbelievable. Cars are for enjoying, not jockeying for status amongst people who don't matter.

yes

And we need to enjoy the ones we all like as much as we can, as we don't know for how much longer we'll be able to before the anti-fun-police take it all away.......

Joined the F.O,C ,did last a second year only because of their track days rather than the coucours meeting ,

Different bread of owner at the track ,not worried about a bit of brake dust or a exhaust stained rear end ,more into their lap times

than polishing and picking grass out of their tyres ,

Did get to one of static meets in my battle scared GTB and they asked me to move it out of the line up of other gleaming 308's ,

Perhaps i should have least given it a wash,

Instead of renewing my subscription i joined the Caterham owners club for a quarter of the price along with a monthly magazine

called "Low Flying" for good reason, If anything i hear most clubs not including ones for yanks and rods have got worse not better ,

Don't need to own a pair of Italian shoe's ,pink polo shirt or Rolex for our meeting, nono

Ain’t that the truth!!
I’ve ummed and arred a few times about surrendering my FAC, but like my muscle cars I just can’t,
Hard one and easy to lose, so I’ll hang on to the bitter end

Stupid prices aside and rubbish built quality Yanks have been a huge part of my life for almost 50years
And hopefully for a fair few more to come !!
I’m feeling quite lucky really, managing to get the TA has kept my dreams going,
Rosco definitely hang on to your Vett for as long as you can !!!
