Well as expected DVLA needs the TA inspected!
So another wait , on the up side I did manage to clean the drivers door GM vin and manufacture date code,
So at least another piece of history/proof etc thumbup
that is a nuisance but should be a breeze. Glad everything is progressing really well and you managed to clean the tag up.

its impossible to remove, it will be destroyed if i try, which is a pain, it needs to come off the blast the door shell for refinishing , so ill have a carefully mask it, then once the shells in the White Base coat, De mask then smash the clear all over,
However this throws up another issue , as it pissed, my OCD will kick in every-time i open the door!

note the painted lock pawl! so its not just the yanks that do/did this absolute bodge,

ive deleted some of the vin for obvious reasons....................................................................................

I would wait until after the inspection and then order a replacement from https://ecsauto.com/collections/general-motors/pro...
perhaps try and remove it with some heat. If it gets messed up a little fit the new decal and keep the old one safe.
I too could not live with that one on the piss. It would drive me nuts

I quite like the shoddy on-the-piss VIN decal...its original and shows how 'thrown together' on the production line these things were back in the day.
Even if as Hellcat suggests, and you get a repro decal (keeping the original with the paperwork etc) I would stick the new one back on in exactly the same way, on the piss to replicate as it was made. To me its part of the cars history.

Maybe I'm just a bit odd laugh

Just been doing my weekly 10 min catch up read on the HAMB, and a post on a mega road trip by a group, and there's this photo of one of the groups cars, this '56 Nomad.

Its owned by a lady hot-rodder, and she's owned it for 30 years now, and she's now clocked up over 250,000 miles in this car in the 30 years she's owned it eek (on top of what ever miles it had done in the 40 previous years of its life!)

Just got back from a very busy Beaulieu Fathers day American,Custom ,Hot Rod show,

Some really stunning cars there with live music and drag cars being started at regular intervals gave the show a great vibe,

Bumped into loads of old faces including Motorama Andy in his 58 unbelievable Olds 98 Holiday coupe,

Only 15 minute drive for me so a nice easy one today..

Good to catch up and have a chat

Bit of a jaunt for me, never done that show before , was gifted a ticket last night and was at a loose end today so thought it was worth a punt ,, was surprised how busy it was. The 58 Olds did 200 miles today and didn’t miss a beat,2 hours to get there and 3 to get home , journey home was a bit long winded as the route I was planning to take was blocked and had to worm my way home to avoid the M25. Prob make a weekend of it if I do it again

Yeah, I can imagine you were in zig-zag mode if avoiding the M25 (which I can't blame you for wanting to avoid!!)

No easy way back though, as you either go up the A34 to Oxford ring road to get over to A418 and then A41......and Oxford ring road can be just as bad on a late Sunday afternoon.....

Or up the M3 and come off at Basingstoke and up the A33 to M4 and then off at J8/9 up to Wycombe on the 414....but that involves going through Wycombe on a Sunday afternoon as well.......

No easy option frown

I'd normally cut accross through Basingstoke A33 to Reading then down the M4 to Maidenhead then local roads but the M4 was closed 11 to 12 so wanted to avoid that area, ended up coming down to the Bagshot junction then coming back through Ascot, Windsor ,Slough ,Beaconsfield Amersham, a route we use regularly for the breakmast meet at pine Ridge

Well it’s been an interesting day today!

So I waited till 10-30 before call Davies Motor Engineering to arrange my inspection,
Got straight through no problem ,
Gave the guy the ref number etc,
First question was does the car run? Is it 100 % complete
So I answer no, cooling system missing hoses etc,
No battery, and a few other odds and sods ,
He says ok DVLA may reject it?
But makes an appointment for this coming Thursday,
Then he says what over parts are missing?
So I say well it’s got no exhausts, the brakes are shot blah blah,
So then he promptly cancels the appointment!
And tells me to contact DVLA?
I explained to him that this was a number check?
He basically told me to f—k off!
Charming!
So I emailed DVLA and much to my surprise I got a reply straight away!
My agent got on the case, emailed the engineer and obviously gave them a bking ,
A hour later my appointment was reinstated!
It’s a good job I’m virtually bald as my hair would have just fallen out!!
What a perlaver !!!

I can’t help but think I’d have been better off buying Harry’s fabulous 427 ,
Ok this is a strange 45 year wanting but it’s really doing my nut now!

When I said this to the wife she “said nah,
We’ve done the right thing , I’ve got a brand new car and you’ve got a turd! “
Sometimes I think I may have f—ked up!
rofl

So I’m thinking ok flog the B’ and buy my TR6 or a TVR,
While I can !
My daughter may have found a nice little house
Which has a nice garage!
So I said I’ll rent the garage from her to help with the bills!
At this rate I’ll never be able to retire!
lol

I did warn you about this.....its why the DVLA's inspectors are 'told' to not process a V5 app for any imported car that can't drive or pass an MOT and isn't 100% complete.
Anything that isn't takes a n extra lot of patience, swearing and shouting at the moon to get resolved.

The strange thing is I’ve absolutely no problem with that!
Pay my VAT , restore the car , get my V5
Simple!!
So why the feck is all this other stuff going on?
Seemingly no body actually knows what’s the process!
Mental,
If this goes tits up on Thursday I’ll maybe have a rethink
The novas all done so I could go down the rat Rod route as first considered,
Finish stripping the body, blast it and epoxy the shell
Then do the mechanical stuff get a mot and then go for historical status,
See what happens Thursday laugh

This must have virtually killed importing basket case cars now??
