I think that this is the problem with the QJET. Most of them are just worn out and poorly rebuilt. The one I bought was a knock off, likely from the far east. It was a great looking car and looked well made but just didn't function right. Every time I've bought an Edelbrock, it just worked.

I bought this a couple of years ago, but it's just had a bit of a refresh. That's a, NYC school bus, ambulance, Crown Vic and now the Checker. Just need a La France fire engine.

Not my first classic car, but my first classic American. Loving every minute - not fast but super smooth and comfortable. Structurally and mechanically excellent - dry state import hence baked roof, seats, dash pad etc, but only superficial surface rust. A great rolling project and room for all the family biggrin

A land yacht - excellent stuff! How does it compare to your non-Yank classics?

Gotta be a great alternative to a MPV or SUV for those with larger families!

Aye, if you don't mind struggling to find parking and 8mpg laugh

Great car though, love a big caddy.

Nice old Caddy. I would use mine a lot more if I could be guaranteed a park, ie, had a driveway. We have an area behind our block for parking but it gets filled up early afternoon, and the road is a bit challenging at times too.

Not all are 8mpg lumps though are they?

depends on the engine I guess but you wouldn't want anything but the 425 would you?

Can't imagine how miserable it would be with the Olds diesel.

My Firebird's only a 350 but I'm pretty sure that if you watch carefully enough you can see the fuel gauge going down. hehe

The anemic 425 is just a method of converting dead dinasours into glacial momentum laugh

It was the best of a bad lot laugh. That gen of caddy is ripe for a cheap LS swap, even the weakest truck engine would be a huge improvement.

I suppose.
I just can't get past the looks of pretty much everything from 1970 onwards.

I'm a weirdo who loves malaise era styling.

The 80's G body cars are probably my favourite American cars.

I'm with you there. I do love the 50s for that ridiculously OTT style, but the utilitarian boxy shapes of the late 70s into the 80s just resonate with me. Probably because I'm a child of the 80s. Lot more practical to live with too. I can park my El Camino pretty much anywhere and it'll fit.

Compared to our early 70s Alfa for example, very spacious, quiet and comfortable, but not a fraction of the performance - 120bhp propelling 1100kg vs 140 propelling 1850kg tells its own story - but hey, that’s not what a 70s Cadillac is about biggrin
