Guys, can somebody confirm what the tyre pressures should be for a Mk.1 on 15" wheels?

Is it 26 PSI all round?

26 all round is the book pressure.

28 I find too bouncy on the road but ok on track.

28 on track? mine went off badly with high pressures, i go the other way round. roughly 28 on the road, and 26 (cold) for track.

Some people have different preferences depending on what tyres they have. I have T1Rs, and was running 26 psi, but I've actually upped it to 32, and I probably prefer it slightly - it seems a little more nimble, and a little easier to steer on the throttle and kick the back end out. I think the T1Rs benefit from slightly more pressure as their sidewalls are reportedly quite soft.

The recommended is 26PSI on mine as well (although on 16" rims) and it's too soft for me.
I've upped mine to 30 and it's better, quite firm but far less wallowy and working the suspension less...

26?!

I run 30-32! But then I do have soft sidewalled tyres

Yes, fairly sure it's 26 in the book. Usually set mine to 28 I think...

Just wanted to check.

I've experimented a bit with mine - 26 gives a nice compliant ride but I'm a bit of a masochist so run 28 and have it a touch twitchier. hehe

30 feels like it hits the bump stops on sharp bumps/potholes, which is unnerving eek

Depends a lot on the tyres I think - 26-28 on mine feels horribly vague and squidgy, 30-32 seems about right.

Yes according to the book it's officially 26psi all round.

I agree with other posters though that it largely depends on the tyres.

26psi for Federal 595's felt about right, in the Hankook K110's however 29psi is more like it.

The best road tyre for MX5s as long as the temps don't go below about 6C. Better wet & dry than T1R and with stiffer sidewalls. 26psi is perfect.

Not tried either on MX5s but I prefer the T1R to the GSD3 on the Legacy, and (on the same car) I think I'd rate the Bridgestone RE001 better than either.

Things can be quite different with different car weights though so you may well be right about them on MX5s.

thumbup Always had mine at 28 so will drop them when I am driving again. I agree about low temps - absolutely useless in the snow too.

26PSI looks far too low in my EF1s confused

Like I said, F1s have relatively still side-walls wink

Not compared to most tyres they haven't, T1-R maybe, but like I said, I find anything less than 28-29 on my GDS3s is too low, and that's with a lightweight mk1

What are you comparing to? They aren't as stiff as some of the high-performance Bridgestone tyres (I used to love SO2 but SO3 went too stiff for the MX5) and obviously aren't as stiff as track biased tyres like Hankook RS2.

Sorry you've lost me.. I was saying that the EF1 GSD3s have soft sidewalls, necessitating more pressure. Was just offering my experiences with the tyre smile
