I normally leave my mk1 in the garage, but the last 6 days the car has been left outside (not used). I went to start the car tonight and it cranks but won't start.

Could the heavy rain cause it due to damp in the engine bay?

Give the HT leads and the engine in general a good blast of WD40.

Just tried that, took off leads and sprayed both in the hole and in/on the leads, and generally around them. No luck frown

Does the exhaust smell of unburnt fuel after you crank it? Do you know if you're actually getting a spark?

Check the CAS (back of the rocker cover) to see whether it's covered in oil too..

Solved it smile The connection for the Bipes had come loose so the engine wouldn't start.

I reconnected the Bipes and the car fired up......I must have dislodged it as I got out of the car last time. I've repositioned it so it doesn't catch on my leg next time!
