Paint colour decision?

I am currently looking at a few MX5s on Pistonheads and eBay with my Dad.

He is concerned that older Red paints used to fade badly. Is this likely to be the case with a late Mk1? If so is the paint easily restored/is it thick enough for a heavy cut?

I'm not sure why, but 1990's Japanese red cars often look poor. Toyotas seem to fade and dull, and MX5s seen to have what I believe to be lacquer problems.

I'd have a look at the car, and if it does have problem paintwork, get the price to reflect it. If it doesn't, I guess that some TLC with polish/wax will prevent it. Of course, you could avoid it all by buying one in a different colour.
