Was on Nutz a whle back I think.

I can never work out with the mx5s why so many owners decide to adorne it with utter chav tat, I notice it a lot with the FI cars. Some of the specs on a few cars are fantastic, but cack bodykist & other naff additions make then look so gash.

yes

Noticed the same thing, maybe they think they have to 'personalise' the car visually as well as mechanically?

I prefer a more standard look for the sleeper effect myself biggrin

I'll be looking to sell my 92' mx5 turbo soon (it will be up on pistonheads) and thats a standard looking car from the outside apart from the exhaust.

See the 'just how scary' thread for the nice clean example I found.

Hmm, I think a new bonnet would do most of the calming down.

I felt it was a bit sketchy on how it controls fuelling/timing (standard ECU,and of course that Garrett 'High Pressure' turbo). Anyone know what kit it is - looks pretty distinctive with the cast air flow meter elbow.

Also - Koni 'Yellows' - am I being thick here but aren't most Koni's yellow?

This is currently on Nutz, I was very interested as a replacement for my 1.6mk2, however, 133k miles and complete lack of engine managment. If you have a look at "mx5maniaman" on mx5nutz he posted that he'd tried fitting a bbr ECU to the car but had caused it to misfire etc?

The manifold is a BBR manifold so should be a good quality.

Hope that helps for anyone that's looking at the car

Hmm, having suffered at the hands of a mistake on old 'clockwork' turbo engine management (Capri Turbo Technics with wrong NA distributor capsule fitted - anyone remember when there was a diaphragm to advance ignition with vacuum? I'll get me coat) - the cost was two smashed pistons, I'd be a little concerned about how long it's been run without proper management, it's quite possible it's been running too much advance and not rich enough - so anyone buying it I'd check for oil leaks/burning of oil and a compression test.

The price starts to look a little less good when you consider that putting some decent management is going to cost (in my estimates) circa £500 if you want to play yourself to £1k + if you're going the route of paying someone else to do it.

Not trying to be negative, but since it seems a work in progress I'd say it wants a chunk less than the price asked.

The manifold on the BBR convertion is one of the week spots. If you want a project not to bad as to get to this stage must of cost quite a bit, I would see the car first and have a drive also check its history. But it would not be my ideal starting point. There are a number of well put together turbo MX5 out there. I think my bro is getting read of his soon. Some body work and could do with poly bushing but runs very well and is proper BBR. It won't be going for a lot more.
