I think back when i did my nissan 200sx i think i might have put a short bar (scaffold pole) with a ring spanner on the head side of the bolt and jammed the bar on the ground then gave it everything/stood on the on the other side which then came loose because the bar on the head-side wasn't gonna move... plenty of wd40 (allowing to soak overnight)etc before that though.

That was in desperation also hehe

Heat will help.

Thanks for the info.
Have given up for today . . . will let it soak overnight. The problem is, it's an early MK1 MX5 1991, the shock bolt has a captured nut in the wishbone, to much pressure and I think the bolt could snap. Problems, problems!

Good luck - if the bolt did snap i dont see it being a big ordeal obtaining a new one from MX5 Parts. Least the shock can come off wink

I'd be more concerned with rounding the nut off than that. Get the spanner/socket spot on. I think 6 sided sockets are the best.

Hi there . . .

It's OFF, but the bottom bush has had it. Mazda dealer will sell me a new bolt but will NOT sell me just the bush, only a complete shock absorber, rather unfair I think. The shock is good, with no leaks and the new spring is on. Anyone have an idea where I can purchase just the bottom shock bush?

you can buy polyethene bushes, i'd go for them. superflex seem to offer better materials than polybush who always seem a bit hard and plasticky

be damn careful not to break the captive bolt out of it's captiveness - i did this on both rears as the insert rusted to the bolt and as i loosened all it did was punch the captive bolts out. took a whole fecking day drilling the bolts through, cutting the wishbone apart slightly and getting my mate to re weld them

replace the bolts with stainless or chromium type if you can and stuff a load of grease in there
