Hi guys,

Tried the search function, but it said no results, seems unlikely if you ask me. Friend looking at an MK1 MX-5 and I said he should get one with an LSD.

1. Which cars have LSD, is it only the Japanese imports?
2. Can you tell from the outside if it has an LSD?

Cheers.....

Its not that clean cut unfortunately... LSD was optional on most Jap models and theres no way to tell from the outside... you could probably tell with a enthusiastic drive though (can on a 1.8 with torsen anyway)
Generally the Japanese ones are well specced so its more likely to have one than not have one.

Have a look at this for more info: http://www.dandycars.com/Frequently_Asked_Question...

I thought it was a little unclear. Excellent web page, not seen that website before.

Try www.miata.net and look in the Garage section.

Mine has an LSD, but I finally proved at the weekend that it doesn't lock very much, if at all, after 17 years. 1st gear hairpin provided the evidence. But since I've owned it for over 6 months and done a trackday in the wet without being able to tell for sure, I am not certain that it's particularly important in a 1.6.

yes

I wouldn't expect too much difference with decent tyres and standard power levels.

the 1.6 diff is a viscous one..
the 1.8 is a torsen model.. now that ive switched tyres round i can hear the torsen dragging the inside wheel when being quite enthusiastic out of junctions
