Irritating noise from rear of Mk1

Hello All,

Well, after getting my Mk1 back from the garage the other week, replete with shiney new fuel tank, I am now hearing a annoying knocking noise coming from the area under the parcel shelf. It sounds like a hollow aluminium tube knocking against something - I can liken it to the noise of an aluminium tent pole. I'm going to have a shufty tomorrow but any ideas/experience of components in this area that sound likely suspects?

I've checked underneath the car and all the important bits of suspension/chassis are attached properly and are showing generous amounts of copaslip btw.

Go in the boot and undo the metal cover that is on the left hand side - covering the fuel pipes to the tank. Jack and tools are down on the left too in a little hole.

All this area will have been jiggled about with if you've had a new tank fitted so its probably just something loose/touching in there.

check your battery and its strap.
mine was loose, and made a similar noise!

Thanks chaps, I will lift the carpets and check it all out tomorrow morning. Hopefully is something noddy.

Turns out it was the exhaust knocking against the diff housing; a quick adjustment of the rubber hangers and job done <phew>
