MX5 have got a cracking deal on -

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product...

Of course - thats based on the EBC Ultimax pads being any good. I know they are not supposed to be an 'upgrade' but are they any good? Road uses only really.

To be fair - the price of a set of discs comes to £77 anyway, so I think I may just go for it anyway even if I end up changing the pads out if I dont get on with them.

The main downside appears to be lots of brake dust, not ideal seeing as I have white wheels!

Im looking at ordering these too, dont think i need any (not actually driven my car or even seen it recently frown ) but obviously they'll come in useful at some point. When I get my car at end of month i'm wanting to get my hands dirty doing odd jobs on it as currently total mechanical novice. I assume with the right guidance and a lot of spare time (and growing a pair) i should be able to tackle changing these at some point...

Oh, totally off subject, April 4th jaunt to Malton sounds good! driving

Having done a bit more looking about - the prices on buypartsby make this slightly less of a bargain than it first seems... I might leave it another month and buy something 'known good'.

Was also tempted by these. Personally I'm not a fan of vented/grooved discs. I'm not sure a 5 has the weight to destroy them but have seen some shocking catastrophic failiures of grooved discs in heavier cars.

Simon,

I got this deal a while back and had the whole lot fitted.

I can't say there was an improvement over the stock brakes to be honest. I would avoid and go for something like Mintex if you can.

The discs are also covered in surface rust already.

check the tolerance on your existing discs, my 1600 ones are 18mm thick i think and need replacing at 16mm. i think the 1800 stuff is 20 to start with maybe?

either way, you might as well leave them till they need replacing - unless you increase the diameter they're not going to stop you any better

i'd spend the money on good pads - EBC red for lesser dust as per the thread i started, though i'd put performance foremost
