Hi,

Spec: 1998 Mk2 1.8iS UK-spec

Problem: Driver side front ABS sensor has intermittent fault. Dashboard warning light on.

This particular ABS sensor has been playing up for months now but very intermitently. Can go for weeks without it triggering the warning light or could be faulty every time you start the car ... There is no rhyme or reason to it and isn't linked to wet or cold weather. Very annoying. I can get a replacement sensor from MX5Parts (= small fortune) but was wondering how easy a DIY job it is to replace the sensor. I haven't got a workshop manual so can't see where the electrical connector goes to once it disappears through the wheelarch.

If anyone has advise on what to expect or how to do it I would be most grateful. With a bit of luck (and dry weather) I'll tackle this repair at the weekend.

Regards,

Dan

Anyone with any information on this?

Have now spoken to two independents as well as our local Mazda Service Centre and putting the service centre's rather daft comments to one side it would appear to be a job I can competently do myself. Just need to know where the ABS sensor lead goes to once it goes into the wheelarch. Any feedback is gratefully received and appreciated!

Have a look on Miata.Net http://www.miata.net/garage/garagehandling.html
The ABS brake installation guide might help you.

Thank you for the info and link! smile Had a look and it was quite helpful.

In the end I just bit the bullit and removed the arch liner. From there it was fairly straight forward although double-jointed elbows and 18 fingers would have been a bonus! Job is done and for anyone who is looking to do this on a MK 2 I would say that it is a fairly easy and self explanatory DIY job.
