I've got a budget of £2,000 for a summer car and have decided on an MX5. I've found these 2 in the classifieds (reasonably close to where I live) and wonder which would be best ?

I like the idea of buying a car that's had 'everything' done to it as I'm not mechanically minded, so I thought these looked reasonably priced ?

Has anyone had any dealings with Goodwood Sportscars, their website certainly sounds as though they're knowledgeable.

Are those goodwood cars still advertised! They were 'sold' when I enquired about them last December, still awaiting my return call about the new cars coming into stock 'any day soon'.

I bought a 1.6 v-spec privately, nice revvy engine, very happy with it and would recommend the 1.6!

Both seem much of a muchness really (What Does that actually mean?)

What I mean to say is that both cars look pretty good, no major obvious things wrong with either and I reckon they are both priced pretty well.

If you could get a bit more off I think you'd have got a decent bargain - especially from trade.

But reading the other guys comments i'd give him a ring and see if he stil has them! - then takle them both for a drive and see which you prefer.

I'm sure the red one was advertised last summer when we were looking for one (may have just been a similar looking one) but I could never get through to them by phone so never got to see it. On the face of it, they both look good cars so I'd buy on condition only. The difference between a 1.8 and 1.6 seem insignificant to me but I haven't driven both truely back to back, just in isolation.

Thanks everyone for the feedback on Goodwood, I hadn't tried to contact them yet.

I'm just looking at the moment, trying to get a feel for what the 'right' car at the 'right' price would be.

I think the effective differences are mostly in the extra equipment - the Torsen LSDs and other toys seem to be more likely to appear on the (JDM) 1.8s. General consensus is that there isn't a huge amount of difference in the JDM 1.6 and 1.8 engines, although you have to watch for the period that the UK 1.6 was heavily restricted.

Also bear in mind the insurance differences. For me, I enquired about a standard 1.6 Vs a V spec Eunos 1.6 --> There was a significant premium on the V-Spec...obviously this depends on your exact circumstances but it is worth consideration.
