Replacing Inner CV Joints
Discussion
i've been tracking down a very annoying mechanical type rattle on overrun recently, and have found play in the inner n/s cv joint
i found this in mx5 parts, but £100?!

does cv joint/driveshaft mean 'cv joint driveshaft end' or that it comes with a driveshaft also and you can't replce seperately?
i assume these fit 1600 bolt together driveshafts?

Try www.justboots.co.uk for an alternative price. You may wish to think twice about replacing this your self as part of the rear suspebsion needs to be dismantled and the rear hub nut removed, the torque setting for the hub nut is 160-216lbf ft or 216-294Nm which you have to remove to release the drive shaft.

the shafts on the early cars bolt to a flange on the diff rather than going into it, from what i can see, unless both cv's are seized you should be able to break the hub nut, then unbolt the flange and remove the shaft without having to seperate the top wishbone and shock/springi've never done it before so do tell if i've missed something
Cheers for the offer Mark, though I've managed to source a complete flange type drivshaft from autolink which i'm assured has no play in either of the CVs
this is the point i've arrived at re. the rattle/clatter on overrun. it might not fix it but 3 out of 4 cv's have no movement at all, but one has a bit of free play, hence the change
JF - the noise on mine is more of a clatter than a scraping, the closest description to what it sounds 'like' is a really worn diff with a lot of lash between ring and pinion and no oil in it. makes the most noise coming off throttle and on overrun, but is silent under power
